Not for road use

Hi all
Well picked my new bike today and apart from losing the contents of my backpack on the M4 had a really good run back.

Quick question: The can says "not for road use" but has just passed an MOT ? and i'm a bit concerned about the legality.

I've seen some stick on metal tags which say the exhaust is legal on fleabay you can stick over the top of the marking.
So wondered if i filed off the "not for road use" and stuck one of them on would it work

I've heard people say that by stating the can is road legal when it's not, it goes from being a simple road offence to deception or something-or-other. Not sure if that's true or not, but I just left the stamp there. Was in big letters on the link pipe and the policeman that picked my bike up when I got knocked off said nothing. Not sure if he looked though.

ummm food for thought

the marking has been punched into the metal like little dots. maybe if i add "unless baffled" underneath the the "not for for road use" i can get away with it.

not sure how likely the cops would go to the hassle of removing the rivets holding the tag on during a potential cursory inspection.

File it off, stick the tag over top.
and say was bought as a second hand exhaust
and deny all knowledge of there ever being anything under the tag?

And as i was aware the only way to remove pop rivets was to drill them out? i wouldnt usually allow a policeofficer to start drilling my exhaust as if it is legal and there was no sign under there he wouldnt be refunding me for the new holes in it.

i drilled the rivets out and flipped the whole strap over then re-rivetted, now it has nothing on it.

I suppose from a non mechanical mind like mine I am wondering why it passed an MOT with the can on the bike? Surely if it was not road legal it would have some effect on it or should I just get my coat?

has any1 been done for non legal road can?, im guessing u will only get caught if ur reving the bike a lot and causing a lot of noise, i always go quietly passed police cars, cant imagine it causing many problems.

I know people that have been done and it was a bunch of police officers walking around the car park at box hill. The were doing people for number plates and pipes.

I masked around my 'not for road use' and used one of those mini drills with a engraving head.

I just got the sticker from E-Bay and coverd it.

Then waxed over the can to make it look like it's always been there.

Isnt that wax going to burnt/smoulder/catch fire when your exhaust now gets hot?

Pretty unlikely since it hasn’t so far when it gets very hot.

I used Autoglym polish to clean it then put sticker on and sealed it with clear turtle wax car wax. Seems to done the job.
