Just got my bike out of the garrage after its been stuck in there for about 2 weeks due to the realy bad weather we have had here. I noticed that the chain apears to have rusted in places. Is this normal? Does the chain just need a good clean and re-lube?
Thanks
J

Check the chain for any problems with the links, such as the rust causing the links to thin down a bit. If all is ok, get a wire brush and give it a rub over.

Then, clean off the chain how you want, there lotsa Googles for this one, and then put it on your bike and give it a nice bit of lube.

Should sort it.

Thanks. There arnt any problems with the links i checked that when i noticed the redstuff.
I've got bike de-greeser and some chain lube ready.
Wont a wire brush damage the 'O' rings in the chain?

I shouldn't think so as long as you don't do it too vigorously! Should be ok. Better ask some more experienced people though.

Keith (kickstart) will know!!!!!

Thanks for the link. Just finished. I used bike de-greaser to remove the old stuff; while that was doing its thing I used the wire brush to lightly remove the worst of the corrosion. Washed the crap off with a good dose of water left that to dry and now I’ve used castrol chain wax to lube it up again. Just letting that settle before I go out for a ride.
