 |
|
I've been seeing a lot of ads these days for 'green' (low emission) economical cars. Ones like the the new 306 that do 66mpg etc...
Cars generally have large petrol tanks and if they now start doing over 50mpg thats a long time before refills.
How is it that a vehicle weighing well over 1000kgs with a larger engine can do more MPG than most bikes.
Do we just have old outdated technology as bike MPG doesn't seem to be improving?
How long until we see more 'green' bikes? ____________________ Motorcycle headlight bulbs and HIDs

My CBR will average about 60mpg on a motorway run, that's much better than most cars. My focus will only do about 40-45mpg.
A most 4t 125's will average about 80mpg or something silly.
You have to remember that most bikes are in a comparitively high state of tune compared to your average car.
So compare the mpg of a GSXR1000 against a Ferrari F430 for example, and the CG125 against your corsa. ____________________ My Flickr |

I did 140 miles on £7's worth of petrol on my RS 50 and the warning light wasn't even on. Still had a couple of quid's worth of petrol left |

It's true, most high mpg commuter bikes are an areodynamic nightmare, the ones that are made for maximum aerodynamics tend to be hardcore super/sportbikes so it's kind of ironic looking at it from an economy sense. ____________________ **WAS FITTED "WRONG WAY ROUND" !** CANT ACCOUNT FOR THE STUPID ! |

Hi
The commuter bikes doing well on fuel are doing a low speed where aerodynamics are far less important. Even the slipperiest bike has pathetic aerodynamics (much of it is styling to look aerodynamic rather than to actually be aerodynamic), only rescued at all by their small size.
Cars tend to run far higher gearing and are biased towards torque lower down the rev range (power is just torque x rpm). Cars weigh far more which hammers their acceleration but at a cruising speed makes next to no difference to fuel consumption.
All the best
