Just gauging interest in this as it was just an idea i had but don't know what people will think.

I'm thinking of going to France/europe next summer for a week or so on the bike but i don't have many mates that ride so if anyone else would be coming it would only be my dad.

What would everyone think to having a group of BCF'ers going across the little pond into europe? Sort of like the BCF national meet the other year except venturing further.

Of course this would take a lot of planning and there are things we'd need to think about such as crashes or bikes breaking down. (One idea could be that everyone has a buddy that sticks with them in the case of an accident and vice versa).

Don't know what responses i'll get but even if only a small group are interested it would be good.

Thumbs Up

Well if we done it in say june/begining of august, you usually get the best weather then.

As we don't know what petrol will do we can't completely budget it but for petrol alone id imagine a good £3-500 depending on your MPG.

Would be good to get a more experienced tourer on board that know more about costs and the routes and things.

I was going to go across to Europe solo next year, but to have some company would be good. I am not the fastest rider in the world, but not the slowest either and I can go anytime between June & September

Count me in if it all pans out Thumbs Up

Likewise, I'm up for it if you let me know plans etc as we build the planning.

I'm guessing were all camping yes? B&B is too expensive!

Might be interested depending on my financial situation next year...

I enjoyed touring by myself this year so would like to see what it's like with a group. I'd say a mixture of camping/hotels/b&b would be best especially with a few as the cost of the room can be shared... Very Happy Thumbs Up

I'd be well up for it. Plans kinda fell through for going this summer, but if a crowd is going next summer I'd love to tag along.

400 would be fine i'd imagine but you've got to just think about reliability mainly as it's probably going to be quite a lot of mileage in a short time.

So has anyone thats interested been touring before at all? If so PM me, if there isn't one i'd imagine making a small group of 3-4 people as the organizers. Obviously i'd have to be one otherwise im dumping everything on other people when it was my idea so it's a bit rude.

Anyone interested on being an organizer? I'd rather it be more mature people rather than young (Like me) Laughing , just means that there won't be any promises that are broken (not as likely anyway).

If your interested in helping organize PM me also. Thumbs Up

A group of 6 of us (Me, Mrs Hippy, Feef, Niff, Mattish and Mike) went to the south of France 2 summers ago, apart from a BBQ about a week before at my place most of us had never met before we left. It does take a fair amount of planning, but you don't have to be obsessive about it.

We booked a villa in the south for a week that would sleep the 6 of us and used it as a base. A great time was had by all Smile

The idea of a villa sounds good to me. Would have to get more than one if there was over 10 of us i'd imagine.

I'll look into prices and things and also roads, is the best place the south of france? Or are there better countrys to go too?

I will help organise if you want. Doesn't switzerland and those countries in that area (yes I am sheite at geography) have good roads?

You've got spain, italy and switzerland in close proximity to southern france which is where the good roads are.

Was thinking about this earlier and although touring would be good i think it would be hard with such a big group. As psychohippy mentioned having just one 'base' would be ideal, every day going in a different direction.

It'll also be easier to organize, everyone pays a deposit, book the villa and then just book the tunnel for us to go over in and then it's just the routes.

As said i will look into it furher regarding prices for accomodation and places to visit.

Just found this little beauty

Clicky

644 Euros a week, sleeps 12. Could probably get a few more with use of sleeping bags.

In southern France near Toulouse, on the border of spain and not too far from the Alps either.

What would people think of staying somewhere like that for a week and then going somewhere different every day?
