Restricted (?) EN 125

Mrs M, has just got back on 2 wheels, and we have bought her a 04 plate Suzuki EN125.....With me riding it will go about 50-55mph ( waits for comments regarding my weight!!!) this is about 1500rpm below red line, does any one know if this bike is restricted, or how to get a little bit more oooomph, as she will need it to do 62mph for her test?

No its not restricted, why does she need to do 62mph? Thats not required in the test. The only time you may need to do that speed would be on a National Speed Limit area on the Big Bike Test.

But given you have a 125 you cant do the big bike test and it will be A2, so the examiner will expect her to ride within the ability of the machine.

Hi and thanx 4 the welcome..... I am under the impression that if she was to do the test, then her bike must be capable of 100kmh = 62MPH.....am I wrong ? ( plus I like to ride it, when not on my CBR!!

Most 125's are, some get there quicker than others, but its not a requirement. On many test routes there is no way you will get a zone of 60, 50 yes.

EN125 is just fine.

A standard motorcycle (category A) is defined as a solo motorcycle between 121 and 125 cc, capable of exceeding 100 km/h (62.1mph). Please note that the BMW C1 motorcycle is not a suitable machine for a practical test. Please see note 2.

So, capable? Yes it is. Will it do it? Eventually

They wont ask you to take it up to 62.1mph to prove it will do it.

As long as the manufacturer states that it is capable of doing 100kmh/62mph then they will allow you to do your test on it.

Anyway, any 125 4 stroke isn't restricted back. They are designed and manufactured with that amount of powerin mind (generally around 11/12hp, some of them will be upto 14). You could gain more but it would cost more than it is worth as you would have to start polishing the head, valves etc.

Let her learn on it, get her test ready and get her in for her test and let her progress onto a bigger bike if she wants to. Less you spend on the 125, more to spend on the bigger bike in the future.
