Guys,

I'm new to riding and need your help.....

I need a bike that ticks the following boxes:

1) Good MPG (like 40-50 on a run at 90mph)
2) Reliable and easy to maintain

it doesnt have to be the MOST comfortable bike going but I'll be using it to do a 200mile round trip up to Leicester once or twice a week. It doesn't have to be the fastest accelerater but it'd like to be able to comfortably sit at 90mph on the motorway (theoretically obviously.... I'd NEVER break the speed limit!!) Wink

I have around £1500 to spend on it so your recommendations would be most helpful!!

Cheers guys/girls

Chris

You say that you're new to biking and yet want to go out and do 90mph straight away? Rolling Eyes

What experience do you have, have you passed your test yet?

If you're only on CBT then a) you could get an aprilia RS125 but if you expect to rag it everywhere then expect engine rebuilds to become your new hobby. b) you aint going to be allowed anywhere near a motorway anyway. c) you won't be living long enough to experience the ride often.

Need more details than what you've given before any proper responses will get posted Thumbs Up

I passed my CBT three years ago and had an Aprillia 125cc sumin or other that used to go 100mph and rode that for 18months..... wanna get back on the bike again so am booking in my test and want to know the best bike for my needs. I do downhill mountainbiking so my balance and handling are good and I'm not afraid of speed! Don't really care too much about dying either as I'm already living on borrowed time and I'd rather die doing sumin fun than in a hospital bed! hope this is enough info for ya!

Apart from being a crap bike, it's hardly nice to ride for 20+ miles, let alone 200!

CB500. Even if I ride like a complete twat I've not managed to drop below 58mpg. Will sit at 90 happily, 200+ mile tank range.

Not a fan? Laughing

Cheap to buy, cheap to run, cheap to maintain, 60ish mpg, 100mph+, what's not to like?

The engine is ancient, granted, but there's a reason they keep building them and it's certainly not to keep the 'plastic bullet' brigade happy. The bike fits the original remit.

gpz 500 ? ive never owned one but i image there good for all you said and you can probably pick one up for half the price and spend the rest on some good textiles and heated grips and a good helmet to reduce wind noise as i imagine that would be a pain the in arse for long motorway traveling
