hi,

guys i'm having alot of problems with trojan spyware at the mo.... it wasn't too bad but just lately it seems to be getting right out of control,

i have norton that came with the comp.

and avg 6.0 which does detect them as they come it...the problem with this is it doesn't give an option to instantly stop them or delete them...it just informs me of it...so i need to do a complete test to find and kill it.

any help would be appreciated

Have you tried AdAware or spybot?
Both are available as free downloads if you do a search with google or whoever you use for search engine.

Go here Craig. I've been having a nightmare with spyware since I installed that mIRC stuff( don't know if this has anything to do with it)

I strongly advocate the use of Mozilla - www.mozilla.org; It is far superior to Internet Explorer, particularly in terms of security.

Merely visiting a webpage with Internet Explorer is sufficient action to infect you with a virus/trojan/other-unwanted-program, whereas Mozilla is completely problem free.

I think someone recently put a post up about all the different spy ware removers etc etc. Can't remember where I saw it to be honest and knowing my luck the link was probably in an earlier post in this thread Rolling Eyes But have a look for that anyway, I strongly recommend using Ad Aware 6.0 Pro, I've got a cracked copy I could send you if you need it, I have Ad Watch running all the time my PC is on and tend not to get any problems with spy ware etc since then.

I often run Spy Seeker or something similar and that clears up some more rubbish that makes it's way past Ad Aware.

Then I have Norton Pro running all the time, scanning my e-mails etc etc. So tend not to worry about viruses too often either.

To be honest, with that lot running it's no hassle as it all does the work itself and only thing I need to do is running the virus scanner every now and then etc.

Let me know if you do want the copy of Ad Aware.

Craig, what problems are you having exactly? Just incase it's the same as mine. I run Norton Antivirus and Firewall and this is the first virus/spyware problem I have had since I first bought a PC 5 years ago Confused

this sums it up blue,

ran spybot..and found 70+ problems, then ran adaware..and found 50...then ran it again..and found 4, then again and found 8...are these little buggers like rabbits??

the adds were the ,main problem...my cpu was always busy loading them etc..and they started popping up whilst i was playing quake online...getting me killed on a few occasions Sad

The trick is to not to click yes to downloading plugins. Typically on entry to a porn site or a software crack site. It asks you if you want to install the free plugin, say no and after several times saying no it will eventually load up the page. Very Happy

You will get no or very little spyware apart from some cookies,

A trojan is typically a virus which opens port's on your computer so a hacker can gain backdoor entry to your system so if you are getting warnings from norton about various trojans then it is proberbly due to you downloading from P2P sources.

spy ware is used mainly for marketing and advertising purposes this is why norton and others does not remove them. Although newer versions may have this option.

Switch to Mozilla - Even the most reluctant switcher will wonder how the hell they ever survived with IE after a month or so.

My personal favourite is pest patrol,
plus a good firewall and antivirus.
make sure the pop up software etc. has been updated to latest version as there's always new ones 'popping up'.

I'm going to be trying loply's suggestion when I next get on my PC. I've been thinking about trying it for a while but I've never got around to it. I'll be reinstalling windows and doing the general 6 month thing when I move house this week and I'll put it on then. (Might as well do it all at once eh?) Rolling Eyes
