Ok, so i want a car and don't fancy another year of roughing it (190bhp on ice/slippery tarmac isn't very nice Shocked )

Plus, the insurance is £85 a month, which is bad when i won't be using it all that much.

Problem is i'm going to lose money on it.

Do i sell it, buy a supermoto & car then seek out another '12 when i have more money available, the insurance will go down a fair bit and i'll be able to afford the car out of the sale money.

What d'you think.....waste of time trying to sell it this time of year?

Depends how much you like that particular bike I think.

I often get the urge to sell 2 of my motorbikes, pool the money to buy a newer bike, but I always bottle because

a) I'll lose a fortune on them.
b) I know I'll want them back.

If you feel you can take the financial hit then go for it. Obviously a car is good bet for the winter, but don't forget you'll probably make a loss on that too, and have to buy a bike when the prices are at seasonal premium.

The car will be a cheapie, so not worried about running it into the ground.

Keep the 12 and just buy a cheapie car. With the ecnomy on it's arse you shouldn't have any problem picking up stupidly cheap wheels.

Riding on ice is stupid, everything else just requires better throttle control. If it's that bad get your bike set up properly.

Never mind, sourced my replacement (old gpz500) within 6 hours of dropping my old one off to it's new owner(sv650s). Knew it wouldn't last. I never do. Mad

Why sell the bike? Confused

Mothball it up for the winter and cancel your insurance, if the tax is due to run out SORN it.

Use the £85/month that you are no longer paying out for bike insurance to buy and insure a cheap car.

When the better weather comes see if you can get an cheaper insurance deal, unless you are about 17 over £1000 a year seems like a helluva lot to be paying out..........

Have a look through the local rags. Pic a local hack up for a couple of hundred quid, save the 12R for next year, tne sell for more than you'd get now if you fancy a proper change by then. If you pick up a 125 as a hack, you won't loose any money when you decide to sell it. Job jobbed, you stay riding on two wheels, get to laugh at whimps who give up riding at winter, everyone wins.

Clio 1.5 dci or similiar. You can get one for under a couple of grand, 65+mpg, £35 tax this year, £20 next, cheap insurance. With a tank range of 6-800 miles you fill it up every couple of months maybe just going to work n back. Or any small engine diesel shopping runabout. Keep the bike. You're obviously attached to it and would regret it, plus you're gonna get, what, 4 grand tops, even if tuned? Wrong time o year as you know to sell, unless someone is specifically looking for one like yours.

Do what babyyam said, or buy a bike with less bhp which is hopefully easier to manage on a slippery surface.
