Hi everyone,

Just about to get a bike and whilst trying to price everything up I have realised that most of the online quote systems seem to assume that you hold a non-medically restricted licence.

I am a medicated epileptic and can drive normally, but my licence is under review every three years.

I'm sure someone out there is in a similar position and it would be really helpfully to know how / who they approached for insurance.

Thanks
Chris

Hey Chris,

Have you tried calling an insurer and asking? I know you have to declare this to the DVLA but is it neccessary to inform your insurer? I only ask as my mother is diabetic and while she had to inform DVLA I'm not sure if she HAD to inform the insurance company - I'll check on that though.
I know they're different conditions but worse case scenario with both would be that you could lose control of the vehicle and in that respect I think it would be something an insurer would have to take into consideration, maybe another BCF member may know a little more on the subject?

Try phoning Carole Nash...0800 804 7952 they talk to you, and make sure that what they say is correct, I insured my wife with them, they took the time to make sure that the insurer would insure her to ride her bike on her CBT, others wouldn't

Hi mate, you'll need to phone up.

Don't worry, under DDA they can't load your premiums, all they are interested in is whether the DVLA say you can drive.

I'm on a 1 year restriction for sleep apnoea and it hasn't affected my insurance in the slightest.

But yeah, if you get an online quote you can just follow up on the phone (BEFORE BUYING THE POLICY!) and just ask them if it's going to be a problem.
