If you're talking an actual motocross bike (125cc), then it would be illegal to ride on a 33hp restricted licence, never mind on a CBT.
The bike would be Q plated and likely be quite a bit more expensive to insure, presuming you're young.

Why do you need to insure an offroad bike?

Either buy one that's already road legal, something like a DT, even if you don't bother MOT-ing it etc when you are only using it off road (assuming you've found somewhere legal to use it that is), then when you finish your ban it'll be easy to get it on the road.

No worries, if you carry on riding bikes like youve ridden you nsr.
itll be either wrapped around a tree or have a damaged big end by the time your license ban ends.

If i was you id sell the NSR put most of the money in a savings account and buy a push bike by the time your ban is up you'll be able to buy a more sensible bike that you can actually maintain

in that time You might have actually taken advice from people on here and you might get somewhere Thumbs Up

i haven't seen pics of the bike yet but i definitely want a kawasaki motocross bike. I would keep the nsr but its pointless as i cant afford to have it repaired again and can't ride it offroad during my licence ban will it be cheaper to insure than an nsr?

If you get a KMX or similar road legal off road bike then it WILL be more expensive to insure than the NSR because they are very nickable and are pure chav magnets.

A Motocross bike is a competition only motorcycle that is used on a dirt track with high jumps and berms. Sometimes these tracks are outdoors and sometimes they are indoors. Motocross bikes will be almost impossible to make road legal, and will require specialist insurance. I don't think a 125cc motocrosser will be legal on a 33bhp license, let alone a learner license. Due to the competition nature of a motocross bike, the maintenance required will be terrible.

To put it bluntly: If you blew up an NSR because you didn't run it in properly after a new piston was fitted, then your MX bike will last about five minutes.

Wait to see if you've been banned, and then if you haven't fix your NSR. NSRs are reliable when they are built and run in properly and the correct two stroke oil is used.

I also fail to see how you'll afford to buy/run/maintain a motocross bike if you can't even afford to fix your NSR?

Supersports, you are onto a loser here - I strongly reccomend that you find out if you really are banned before you make ANY kind of decision. The NSR is a good bike, and if you don't abuse it then it will be quick and reliable. This whole off road bike idea is a bit of a white elephant. As I urged you before, please listen to what we have to say or at least expect a poor response here if you do buy an MX bike and then you can't use it/ it blows up/ you get arrested for using it illegally.

Wait to see if you've been banned.

Was about to say - wasn't this the kid who was going to escape a ban because his speedo was faulty / he needed his licence for going dogging / he was very special (delete as applicable)?

Oh, btw his NSR on ebay looks like a right pile of shite.

Thats the badger Thumbs Up

I know someone who rode a KLR650 on a CBT, no problems at all.
Doesn't mean it was legal, or anything, though.

Motocross bikes are fairly easy to make road legal, but will be harder to insure. I would agree that it's a silly idea, but he seems to get rather stuck on certain ideas without thinking about them in the first place or considering other people's views which he requests.

a dirt bike and a motocross bike are very similar not in looks but performance and maintenance

i have friends who have both 1 has a DTR 125 which is pretty rapid and he uses castrol oil in and rarely has any problems what so ever apart from the odd cold start problems

but also have a mate who has a YZ125 which is a whole different machine this thing accelerates like fuck but he uses shit loads of castrol oil and has to change the spark plug every other 2 or 3 rides (Excessive but helps apparently)

But trying to get anything into stupidsports head is like trying to get a 2 legged horse to win the grand national

G: That is 'fairly easy' for you and I who know about bikes, know the rules and are happy to put in some effort and listen to advice. Which actually doesn't really apply to Supersports. When I said 'road legal' I also mean insured and so on.

I do agree though that an MX bike will DEFINATELY make more than 14.6bhp and as such be illegal to ride on a CBT. I'm fairly certain that recent 125cc MX bikes will make more than 33bhp too...

That is EXACTLY the same thing you could say about riding a 650 with no license...

yes you could say that..you could say exactly that,we could say many things going on for ever Laughing .. if you cant see the difference between being stopped by the law on a 650 and a 125 crosser on a cbt.. in one case l plates/insurance documents are present..in the other they are not..then thats ok Laughing

9/10 chance youl be fine on the 125
10/10 chance your going to get arrested on the 650,instantly,as soon as they run your plate

at least on a 125 its still a 125..most police have no idea, and many more don't care unless your riding like an arse or being abusive

I don't understand how insurance documents can be present on a bike which makes more than 14.6bhp and is not a road bike. If you get insured then you've lied to the insurance company which of course you can do on the 650.
