Hey folks,
OK I have been tasked with speccing a new family Pc 2 adults and a 5 year old.
They want a 22" screen and thats all they know. I specced the last one and its done 4 years so not bad.
I would like them to have 2 harddrives as they are a nightmare for not backing up and as I am the only one in the family that works in IT, guess who gets the call
Gaming is not a big thing as its only kids games for now but not onboard please as it may be used in cinema type enviroment for media at some point, I could install one for them but anything from an ATI 3850 will do.
As much ram as possible please, as vista loves to munch it down so if 4gb's is around that would be great!
I dont want to build them one so it needs to be a mainbrand. The dell 420 looks good and the Dell Studio looks good.
P.S if there was a marked performance/storage improvement the budget could move slightly.
Oh and Blu ray not needed
So anyone up for the challenge.
Cheers all! ____________________ VFR FI 2000- Shiney Red Thing

As JB said ^
However you say you're not building one In the time it takes to order a pc you can build your own and save a few hundred quid if you know what you're doing .
Other than that - most pre built systems now come with Vista so you want a minimum of 2gb ram - as for the rest ( could be used as a cinema / media centre ) then all you need is the bare essentials - low budget GFX card ...
You can get an 8600 pcx for about 40 quid now
Basic Motherboard , cheap CPU - maybe a low end P4 / Athlon 64
2 SATA drives of maybe 250gb each should be about 80 quid ____________________ Bike History:- Vision / Phantom 100 / Aerox 100 / Runner VX125 / Honda VFR400 NC24 / Kwak ZX9R B3 / Honda CBR600 F / ZZR400 & K2 GSXR 750 / Suzuki VZ800 |

Sorry folks not really clear......
This is for my Mum her Husband and my little brother.
The Pc will be put against my mums husbands company so needs a VAT receipt.
Otherwise I would have built one for them, bought a monitor etc.
I could get one for less than £500 but I want to get them something that will last a good while so I want it overspecced now as it wont be in the future.
I am IT support for an oil company so my knowledge is fine its just that sometimes people will see deals I have not
Hp dont really have anything worth the money right now, dell are doing some good systems but they are with quad core whereas I would prefer a dual core for now and use the money saved to up the core speed.
Like I sadi my question might seem a bit confusing that was my fault.
I think I was in Monday morning work mode while I wrote it. ____________________ VFR FI 2000- Shiney Red Thing
