"Gaming" Laptop

My dad has finally agreed to get me a pc, so instead of him buying a new mac, he'll take mine and buy me a laptop.
Budget I'm gueesing will be about 600 quid, but it might be more.
What's the best bang for my buck on this one?
I want something that won't crash in an instant, preferably have XP, and be cabable of handling most games

600 squid is not much if you want a gaming laptop. Does it have to be a laptop? If you want gaming then you would get a far more capable desktop for 600 squid.

No point in getting a gaming laptop tbh, i had a Alienware one that cost 2k which tbh was not great.

Yeah I agree gaming latops aren't that great, I paided £1400 for mine I could have bought and equivilent PC for half the price, all it did was get really hot and eat batteries. Do you really need a laptop? I bought a gaming PC and I'm gonna buy a cheap laptop to handle my roaming requirements.

I did get my Dell XPS1530 for £589?

I bought mine from Pcworld, for some reason its near £100 more from Dell direct?

Touch sensitve buttons for volume etc, HDMI output.

battery life is terrible for gaming but for the money I paid its the business as a mobile backup for my main rig.

I do agree for that money you would get a decent desktop. Probably not one I would want with a monitor though.

aha but you need to remember if I go online and find a laptop for 689 then walk into a shop and see the same one for £100 less and then ask to see the box and the documentation and it all says Dell XPS i'm fine with that.

I also looked for something that was under my budget and that was and I have had 0 problems with it it plays anything I throw at it (not at full of course) doesnt look the worse thing in the world and does everything I need it for.

I'm happy

What would you buy for the same money vs performance then? It's all very well saying Alienware or the like but Alienware IS Dell.

I didnt see on other unit that made me think, what a deal.

Its the enthusiast that slams dell, they sell a lot of shit3 but they also sell a lot of good well made systems you just need to pick wisely and get what you pay for. Their laptop's are fine imo.

I'm starting uni next year, possibly in the UK (I'm in Spain now) so I'd prefer a laptop, but I might custom build a desktop out of mostly second hand parts. Can get incredible deals that way - I checked a while ago and for that money I can pretty much get core 2 duo at 3 ghz, 2 or maybe even 4 gb ram, fat HD etc...I'm guessing as long as you reset eall the data to zero it'll hold out for a couple of years at least?
