Hey guys,,
I've been looking through the forum recently and i've been wondering about what first bike to get.
For along time i've wanted a NSR125 however i have read in places about them being 01 at latest and old?
Any opinions or experiences of this?

On the four stroke side i was thinking about a Yamaha R125?
Again any opinions on this?

I know pretty little to do with motorbikes i have however i've been interested in&been wanted one since i can remember

So yeah any help what so ever.
Thanks,,
Nick.

01 is nout, there are people on here running much older 125's absolutely fine.

You may know already but if not:

2 strokes, NSRs, RSs, Mitos etc. have a higher maintenence rate but are alot more fun and generally fine.

4 strokes, CBRs, YZFs, CGs, are more reliable, but will never get to the sort of speed you could on a two stroke.

So basically it's up to you.

Although my 2 pennies is that the maintenence on a 2T is well worth the extra kicks, and that if you do get a 4T then the YZF-R125 is way over priced. Thumbs Up

Alright guys thankyou both,
i did pretty much have my heart set on an NSR till someone mentioned about them being 01 and old...
&the 3k for a new R125....

I was also wondering whether i should make my first bike a long term investment and keep it for a while?
or pass my test's asap sell&buy a restricted 400 or something along those lines?
Any opinions on that?
Thanks,,

I always had my heart set on riding and set out to do the Cbt and get a 125cc.

I bought a brand new Ybr125 as nmy first bike, didn't use it very much to be honest - didn't even run it in. Six months after buying it I decided to do the DAS to get it out the way. I enjoyed it so much Iended up trading in the Ybr for a 600cc.

Now depending on what you want to use the bike for, I'd say do the Cbt and see how you feel. Theres nothing wrong with owning a 125cc long term if its for a short commute etc but you may find yourself yearning for a little more power after a while.

I've got an NSR125 on a 94 plate and it's great, it looks pretty much the same as a later one as it's the foxeye model, I don't even get laughed at by the bigger bike boys as they know the NSR is a fiesty little 125.
I plan on keeping this after I pass my test this month for the fact that it is pure fun on 2 wheels and I love riding it.

If you buy a newer bike just think what the service and repair bills are gonna be like, especially if you drop it and damage the fairing on something like the YZF r125 - it will cost you a small fortune

even if you will buy yzf r 125 for £3K ( £3079 otr) and you will want to sell it after a year i think you will still getting a decent money back, there are always people willing to buy 125cc to learn at. Minus point is, i drive like 5 times, done 120 miles, and want something quicker right now, but its great to learn all the basic things, riding position, feel of the bike ( i know that every bike is different but to get a general feel to be on 2 wheels), learn the curves, counter steering, breaking, etc etc. I went for a new one because didnt wanted to buy something that i will spend most of the time repairing it. Just my view Wink

Yes. You keep telling yourself that. It might make it come true! Wink

A brand new bike, especially an overpriced 125 like the YZF will be worth about £2k max after a year. Find me a similar age CBR, and guaranteed it will have lost a third of its value.

My reccomendation is (as always) if you want fun, go for an NSR125 and derestrict it. If you don't like maintenance or buying expensive oil, then buy a CG125 or equivalent (four stroke). Even a second hand CBR125 will be better value than a new YZF at the moment. Let other people take the depreciation hit - after all you'll probably sell it after a year anyway.

I WILL BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO GET £2000 after one year, and im not that bothered anyway, i just hope im not going to crash it( or my self) to pieces

I hear this a lot, mostly from people justifying a supersports bike on the road. I usually say if you get bored then you aren't riding it right. Maybe I'm special but in two years I can't think of a single time I was board on the CG - outright terrified occasionally maybe but not bored.

Bike aren't kiding in the Used Bike guide that the CG125 thrives on neglect, whereas any performance 2 stroke does require a rigid maintenance schedule.

Reasons not to own an NSR? Read any couple of posts by the member supersports and ask yourself if you are more responsible.
