Why dont cheap bikes ever turn up near me?

i've watched numerous bikes now on ebay ever go for pennies or not sell yet they are always too far to go view.

are all us northern monkeys that tight we don't let our toys sell cheaply?

Some sellers will meet half way for veiwing if you ask, you will have to pay fuel cost both ways though.

Also there is nothing wrong with emailing/phoning and asking for a video of the bike running (and being ridden), and close ups on the bodywork to be emailed to you, a lot of ebay sellers will ablige if they think your a serious bidder.

true true, there is one on the way to somewhere i plan to go on sat, so i might ask to view it too.

Problem with eBay is that it has such good nationwide coverage. People will bid on bikes from miles away now, where as at one time most people bought local.

It can be difficult if you are after a specific model to get one local so sometimes you do need to be prepared to travel. I like to view it first because it is all well and good having pictures but it is nice to listen to it or have a test ride and this means travelling "twice", unless they are prepared to end the auction early.

There are bargains to be had November, December time and there is Bike Trader and Loot (maybe). At the Sunday bike meets there are normally a few bikes with "for sale" signs on. But I know what you mean, sometimes it takes ages to get the right bike deal when buying private.

Although a CG125 turned up in the local paper with a 12 month ticket for £250 a couple of months ago. Sadly I was broke at the time or I'd have had it there and then.
