Loads of people rave about Bagels, but to me they are just like stale hard buns with a hole in them. Have I missed something?

I used to hate bagels becuase they just taste like hard stale buns until I had one in Amsterdam. The one I had in Amsterdam also tasted like a hard stale bun but I was bloody hungry so i guess there is a place in this world for bad Jewish bread.

Bagels and Paninis FTW.

Or at least FT breakfast and lunch.

Salt beef bagel is good, also the big advantage that most places that sell them tend to not sell pork, or at least make it very obvious if something contains pork. This is good, seeing as I avoid filthy swine.

You northern types just eat coal.

They are a bit chewy (specially when you're a bit wary of snapping off crowns Shocked) but they are nice - I certainly prefer them over panini.

I like onion bagels toasted, with cream cheese.

If you buy the ones from the supermarket, then yeah they are rank!

There used to be a small sandwich shop behind the bank of England which did bagels. You could even buy just the bagels in bags of 6 'to go'. They were much better. Crispy on the outside, nice and fluffy on the inside...

Nope, I think that you're spot on! Thumbs Up

I'm not a big fan of anything bread or carb like though, so thought it was just me being a bit freaky Embarassed

Ooh you can't beat an onion bagel sliced in half toasted with cheese on it, or just butter on a cinammon and raisin one. But I refuse to eat one with smoked salmon and cream cheese, I think I've lived with a woman too long. Wink

My office used to be in a photographic studio and one day we arrived to be told we had to eat a load of smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels - they'd been tasked to photograph them for some advertising campaign and had made about a hundred before choosing most attractive ones to shoot. Drooling

Onion bagels are supreme. As are the raisin and cinnamon ones, especially with chocolate or toffee spread. Drooling Drooling

I'd rather eat a Ryvita with instant mash on it.
