Can't view the video at work, but if its the ENV bike designed by SeymourPowell then its been around for a good couple of years, and as a concept for a couple of years before that.

But if they have finally put it into production then thats a good thing Thumbs Up

Although I think it looks more like a bicycle with an engine rather than a motorbike with a fuel cell.

I wonder how much electricity is used to create the hydrogen?

Problem is that it only does 50mph with a tank range of 100 miles and it already has a bigger tank than most sports tourers.

It's a start, and makes a great city bike. I'd have one.

As was said “it’s a start” who knows what they will be like in a few years.

Yes but by then people will be commercially producing hyrdrogen.

Which uses electricity.

Which you need to use coal for.

So it'd be impossible to have local solar/wind powered hydrogen generators then? You have to use coal?

I dunno what it takes to make hydrogen but my physics teacher said there wouldn't be enough space for all the windmills, or we would have to switch to totally coal and nuclear for our mains power.

Don't get me wrong I want what's good for the environment, I just don't think that this is a viable solution.

The only viable solution is free energy (so-called 'Zero Point'). Anything else is a shuffling around of what's already available and solves fvck-all.

theres a thought imagine a nuclear powered bike Twisted Evil haha

it says in the video that renewable energy is used to electrolyse water into hydrogen and oxygen, and you're right, using coal, oil or gas fired power stations would be pointless. In terms of using renewable it's genius, beause rather than having some stupid solar car, you can use the hydrogen fuel to essentially transfer your renewable energy into your vehicle, whilst the vehicle can remain largely identical to current design paths, with exception to the motor.

In terms of not enough room for windmills, there is no 'single' solution. It's all about using a range of methods, solar, wind, tidal, geothermal etc, and of course nuclear, which will no doubt be required to bridge the gap to having enough renewable.

You don't need a huge amount of power for the electrolysis process.
Ideally you might have a solar panel on garage or house or ultimately on the vehicle itself (energy producing paint Idea ?)

Since most vehicles can stand around charging far more than they are running, the energy gathered would usually be enough.

Although so far they are simply topping up with hydrogen that's been produced elsewhere.
