I had broken down at the side of the road and some kind fellow with a van had offered to give me a lift. I gratefully accepted, so we proceeded to lift the bike into the van.
I went to grab the handlebars, he advised I should hold the bottom of the forks. I did so and we lifted the front wheel into the van. The weight of the bike was rolling forward and my thumb had found itself between the forks and the disc brake. Bye bye thumb. I'm left with the end of my thumb fractured and a crushed nail bed and the nail ripped off. The nurse advised that I was quite lucky my nail bed was still intact, I did question her about which part of the evenings events she thought was particularly 'lucky' for me.
As it happens, this summed up an unlucky day for me (last Sunday). I had just made my cylinder head nice and flat (check The Workshop for my bike woes), so decided to take it for a spin to see if it had cured my problems. It appeared to have done so, brilliant. Until my drain plug fell out of its thread, leading to boiling water pouring all over my foot while doing 60 along a busy road. This hurt a lot, so I pulled over and watched helplessly as the entire contents of my coolant poured itself over the roadside. I wasn't that far from home, so decided I might be able to get away with riding without coolant - Hindsight lets me see that this was a bad idea. I was gradually losing power until my bike ground to a halt. I thought I may have seized the piston, it wasn't until I got back from A&E that I saw that I had cracked my head cover and warped my head (perhaps it was still a bit warped before I took it out).
I then discovered that while I was in A&E, I had lost an ebay auction for a new head by 50p. It was a brand new head that went for £10.50, and was likely to solve my problems I've been having with my bike.
At least my luck karma should be unbalanced in favour of good luck. I'm waiting to see if how them scales balance themselves out. ____________________ Honda MTX 125 |

Sucks dude. Hope your thumb gets better soon.
If it's any consolation, karma is largely a lie but the laws of probability are on your side.
Meaning the odds of you going through a second day that is just as bad are very slim ____________________ Yamaha YB100 | Yamaha TZR125 | Yamaha XJ600S | Suzuki GSF600

That is very unfortunate. I have bookmarked this thread so that I may refer to it when I think things are going bad for me, and need to realise that there is always someone worse off.
In this case - you! |
