Anyone had any experience with them? Good points, bad points, things to look for blah blah etc etc?

Any helpful info would be good Thumbs Up

Cheers

[edit] looking at 1998+ ones (C1 and up) in A1 nick from a dealer. <sniff> yes I know, a dealer. Sad But having no bike makes me realise how much I need a warranty.

Have been looking at getting one myself but have found something different that I'm trying to secure with a deposit at the moment.

Read this...

Any news on your bike by the way? When I last went to Blays it was still in the same place, I don't think the muppet has touched it.

That's a good read, cheers dude Thumbs Up

No, no news really. I rang up on saturday and apparently a starter solenoid from Albean's CBR didn't work (your guess is as good as mine btw Question ) so he's lost interest and I've lost patience with the joker to be honest. Not being funny but if you can't do it just say so seven months earlier instead of wasting everyone's time Confused So I've decided to get rid and replace with a newer bike fresh from a dealer with warranty etc. I've had enough of bodging stuff and miss having a bike too much. Peace of mind and all that.

Are you keeping what you're getting quiet then? Twisted Evil

Indeed I am, you'll have to wait until I get her. I think getting rid of the old bird is probably your best bet anyway. Giver her a polish and take it to a dealer and trader her in for a new one. You can't really go wrong with the ZX9.

Kris, would it not be possible too get an independent warranty if you bought private? I meant to find out if they done this for bikes but my mate took out a policy for his car and it was a real good warranty for only 200 quid for the year.

I wouldn't rely on warranty too much, there have been a fair few examples recently of warranties being worth less than the paper they are written on.

Edit: BTW I was refering to standard warranties, not independant ones. I don't know much about the latter.

I noticed the AA did them for cars but specifically excluded motorbikes. Confused

I was going to get an older ZX9 for £1300 a while back, but couldn't sell my CBR in so I passed it on to my mate and he snapped it up. It had done only 8000 miles and was in lovely black and silver. It needed a new CDI and ignition barrel (£165 for the two), then started first. My mate was well chuffed with it, only problem is the B models are very heavy, so C and above would be the best . Actually come to think of it, my mate took his test today... Betta give him a ring! Shocked

Warranties are worth the money they're printed on, you just have to have the balls to not take any shitty dirty tricks the shop may try (see Ste's situation with the bikeshop).

Dru: You had any insurance quotes on the ZX-9 or similar yet?

Fair enough about the warranty, but Ste was lucky that he rode the bike from another garage to his current one and the previous garage was able to make a statement about the condition of his bike.

Laughing May take you up on your deal if I have to Danny. Reckon I should be able to get it down to a reasonable amount for TPFT to be honest, after all I am a careful rider.

Depends on the warrenty company, but some are useles. Miss a service by a day / 1 mile and your warrenty is invalid, etc. Many warrenties will have loads of get out clauses to avoid paying out.

By the way, did you know that in America (on cars at least) if the maker specifies that to keep the warrenty you must use their oil filters then they must supply them free?

All the best

Keith

On my last car I had a manufacturers warranty. It was an Alfa Romeo and the warranty was excellent. It covered absolutely loads of things. I was surprised to find that the I got the wheel bearing replaced after 50k miles on the warranty. Smile

What I did find though was that the garages told me in no uncertain terms that to keep the warranty valid I must have the car serviced in an Alfa Romeo garage and use genuine Alfa parts.

In actual fact I phoned the warranty company and they told me that I could use any EU or BS approved part and could get it serviced in any garage, as long as they were vat registered.

Just shows you, never trust these people. Confused
