actually what he selling is:

1999 R6 grey/black

Roughly 21000 miles

11 months tax and mot

New tyre on rear

New spark plugs

no service history had 1 service at 300- miles and bits and nothing but oil changes since.

Renthal gold sprocket

SSS gold x-ring chain

Pazzo racing levers

dark smoke screen

01-02 tail conversion consisting of colour matched undertray and led rear lights with integrated indicators

4500k headlight bulbs

Project r tail tidy

HEL braided brake lines

Yoshimura RS3 slip on exhaust.

LED front indicators.

pro's:
a few tarty things but all the fairings are shagged and it doesnt look cosmetically good.

cons:
- needs a proper service - forks, engine, etc.
- engine could be and probably is shagged.
- loads of dents scrapes etc.

suspiciously low price, if everything is how he says it is why is he not selling it for 2k?

Fnatic the new supersports?

Cheap is often cheap for a reason, never take someones word for it. For a few quid you can get the AA to give it the once over for peace of mind.

So?

If it had a fistful of bills for work carried out then at least it shows that its been looked after.

Be warned from my spider senses, why is the bike wet in the first pic? Water covers many a defect, never view a bike in the rain.

That was just a picture he sent me during a clean. He's sent me plenty of pictures. He certainly isn't hiding anything on the cosmetics side. Thumbs Up

i say go for it. a new engine will only bring the price up to the price of a normal one in similar condition... for all you know it IS the CCT.

get a manual one Thumbs Up

The fact that half_life and Luke have both had the 6, knackered the engine and gearboxes, changed them and still had problems suggest to me...stay clear and get a bike thats running ok unless you know for sure whats the matter and that you can fix it.

17 and an R6 is tempting I'm sure, but, 17 with a knackered bike and no money is another story.

Very Happy Cheers for the advice. Thumbs Up 1350 is a bargain though. I am tempted. But I reckon it's fekked.

If I were you, I'd spend the extra grand and buy Luke's Wink

Edit: I thought it said 2k for some reason. Engine knocking is worrying, however if it blew you could get an engine for not too expensive, and fitting is easy. Thumbs Up

Mine sold for £2000, that was immaculate and engine and gears were absolutely perfect also... Didn't have any of the extras - but you shouldn't be paying for them anyway.

Save up for extra few hundred quid....you won't regret it -

I've done it a few times and gone for the cheaper option, and very quickly it's got more expensive as everything goes wrong, now I only buy a bike I'm convinced is good, and most of the time that involves ignoring the cheaper ones on the market, as they are cheaper for a reason...

Also, in regards to fairing damage - it's a nightmare, becuase you will most likely constantly be finding extra damage, bent mounts, missing screws etc.....it will wind you right up!

Move on to another....

So its considerably cheaper than my 7R that was a write off?

Can you guess why it may be so cheap?

I would say leave it, may be cheap now but will cost you in the long run.
Not as cheap as mine though, and with a 300 quid set of panels mines almost mint Laughing
Although technically a write off.
With the stalling, mine had probs with hot starting, because the rings were shagged which could be the cause of the stalling even at 50+ degrees although the engine had 40k on it when this happened.
Aint service history good Smile

If you do buy it, your going to need to give that a proper full on service given it's (lack of) history so be sure to factor that into the cost unless your willing to risk running it into the ground. Personally I wouldn't be too bothered about the tatty cosmetics especially with winter coming up, I'm a bit of a tart but the only thing I saw there that would bug me was the big mark on the tank. Any mechanically minded friends you can take up with you to check it over?

Leave it, it's probably owned by a teenager who just loves ragging his bike and not bothered to spend a sufficient amount of money keeping it in good nick.

Due to my mechanical incompetence and laziness i've probably spent a good few grand keeping my bike in good nick... If it doesn't have a stamped service book, or a list of receipts for parts, then forget about it. Sports 600s require attention, but maintaining them shouldn't be a chore. I'd be safe to say that the bike IS shagged, i heard the video of the engine surging or hunting and no way was that a fuel starvation issue. Even still, a new engine is somewhere around 300 quid + fitting.

Why restrict yourself to an R6? There are loads of supersports out there that offer the same amount of performance for considerably less, and with reduced running costs and associated problems?

Good luck to him, I eventually after 6months of trying sold my 55 plate R6 with 5k on the clock for £3200 on ebay a month ago.

If it's been thrashed you can also suspect the usual gearbox problems that some ragged r6's are known to have.

how did he get the indicators like that? i have the same undertray but i have the shit 'carbon look' ones you get from halfords. ( prev owner not me )

Guys, ignore the first time poster lark as im a member of several biking comunities on the net mainly gixerjunkies.

Firstly, yes shes a little scarred...hence the price. Secondly there is a very slight rattle, now this in most cases could be one of two things.

Slightly unbalanced carbs can cause a rattle ( a ten year old bike will have rattles anyway...in most cases. )

Or..

A cam chain tensioner thats gone/on its way out, can pick a tensioner up for £8 ish off ebay ( used of course )

I think at the price im asking its cheap enough for little work to be done to it...if needed.

Look forward to your replies, anybody is more than welcome to come and view the bike and make their own opinion.

What the OP and his friend have neglected to note is i am a learning mechanic and have changed the oil/filter every 3000 miles..twice since ive owned it. If you can look past a few scars here and there then its well worth the money given it has 11 months tax and MOT on it.

Regards Andy ( Actual owner )
