On my way home from work earlier, I was being followed by a taxi, so closely that I had to brake very late to stop him hitting me about three times. There was no chance of pulling in due to parked cars, so I decided the safest option was to overtake the car in front.

The road is a 30 limit, reasonably busy, I probably touched 36 or so in my overtake.

As I was overtaking, I notice a copper standing on the opposite side of the road, watching me. He had no gun (dark) and he was walking, no gun(edit meant to say car Rolling Eyes ) or anything.

It's been over an hour now and I drove past a police car waiting to turn just before my road, whats the likelyhood of getting an angry letter?

Cheers
Pyro

Absolutely no chance of any retribution. He has no way of knowing how fast you were going. Should've flicked your V's.

Pah, wouldn't worry. It's unlikely the Police would pursue any action against you based on a copper saying he saw you overtake.

With the way Police are nowadays, they could catch you robbing a bike, with it actually in your hands, on CCTV, wearing a balaclava and swag bag, and it would be declared 'There's not enough evidence for the CPS to continue with the case'. So I probably wouldn't worry mate.

This is what I thought, but we get this panicy moments.

The only reason I got a little bit dodgy about it was that I got speed cameread and stopped yesterday, they got me doing 38 in a 30 along a seafront road (no people) and let me off with a 'don't do it again young man', yet after I'd got my fags and come back along the same road, they were ripping apart a ped rider.

How does braking late help...

Surely you should have been braking a lot earlier and more gently to allow the prat more time to stop.

I would also have done the same as you and put a safety barrier between him and me. Thumbs Up

Because when I was braking, he wasn't slowing down. It was almost as if I wasn't there, like he was braking to the guy in front of me.

Sounds like you need more confidence and road presence.

Certainly braking late and keeping watching him won't help. My mrs is bad for this on the motorway, she allows herself to be bullied by people behind her.

If someone's being a twat behind you, build up a distance between you and the car in front, and brake earlier and more gently. Sit right in the middle of your lane.

What bike is it? Sounds like something that happens to something with an L plate.

Gaz

p.s on the police front, nothing will happen.

I've got plenty of road presence and confidence, bike is a zxr750.

I was tired as hell, had worked 12 hours the day before, then gone out on the piss, then back for another 12 hours. Wasn't thinking about distances and this, just noticed there was a big fuckoff taxi being a dick behind me. And I was cold, and wanted to get home, which was about 2 minutes away.
