Hi

Anyone tried one of those pieces of software for getting performance figures? There is some where you connect an inductive pickup to the plug lead and feed the signal into a tape recorder. You then play the signal into your PC. From this you can work out engine revs, and from that and gearing you can work out performance figure.

Should work quite well, except for trying to get 0-60 (as how would you know the point you set off).

Just curious if anyone has tried it. There is an old airfield near me and the farmer who owns it will allow you to use it for about £10 for a few hours. Could be interesting.

All the best

Keith

Hi

The airfield is about half a mile long, quite wide but not brilliantly surfaced. The farmer who owns it flies a plane from there, but regularly lets it out to racers to set vehicles up. Last time I asked it was £10 for 2 hours (but the time before it was free, as I took my brother up there to practice driving a car and he didnt charge for that, got them a box of chocolates anyway). He doesnt let people use it noisily on a Sunday (avoids problems with the neighbours), but Saturdays shouldnt be a problem.

The software is something like "Desktop Dyno". I have seen it on the web, but cannot remember where. There were a few people doing it. Basically you could take a guess at the aerodynamic drag of a bike and then use the actual performace and the known gearing to work out the power of the engine.

All the best

He doesn't, but it is still up for hire. However nowhere near as cheap these days:
