Who here can admit they love Queen.

go on, fess up, they rule, who cares if farookh was a batty boy he has a voice like us straight boys dream of.

such a timeless unique band, and and oasis fanboy friend of mine has the nerve to tell me they are "unoriginal and bland"

prove him wrong guys.

Excuse me... bland?

I submit "Seven Seas of Rhye" as an opening argument.

Queen are ace. Even after I discovered that most of their songs were about Freddie's love life.

Queen are amazing, they all had a great sense of humour (flash gordon/ I want to break free vid) and could put on a stage show (live aid/ wembley 86) with such a wide range of showmanship and talent that no other band has ever came close to as all round entertainers.

Freddie has the most unique voice and range ever, oasis are good at what they do and have great song writing ability but they'll never be in the same league and are already pretty much forgotten about.

Queen are ace. I like Oasis but they don't come close. The only band around at the moment to get anywhere near Queen are Muse. Though the sound is different the prodigious talent and amazing showmanship is the same.

Nah ... I don't really rate anything Queen did after A Night At The Opera.

All that Flash Gordon stuff and the prancing about at Live Aid, they'd lost the edge by then, and become more mainstream, which is probably why everybody else likes all the songs I don't reckon much of.

The first three or four albums totally rocked ... I think the last one I ever owned was Jazz and I didn't even think that was "all that". Everything after that didn't really impress me all.

My favourites are the first to third, possibly my favourite album is Sheer Heart Attack. So much sheer brilliance. But if I listened to Queen or Queen II again, then I might decide I liked one of them better Laughing

Queen are fantastic. Fucking love them. However, unlike HK, it's the 'middle period' I like the most I think - very late 70's and early-mid 80's. Fantastic.

As for Freddie, well, it's simple really, the best male popular vocalist ever.

Exceptional charisma. Shocking teeth. Laughing

I quite like queen, if I have long gaps between listening. If I dont hear them for 2 years I think they are amazing, twice in a week and I'm not so keen.

I like the fact that they are so quirky, a singer who looks odd and is an unusual racial type called farsi, and a guitarist who is a serious astronomer.

Nowadays if a band are quirky its all very calculated, and too quirky and someone would pull the plug.

For classic rock, i prefer ACDC.

I wouldnt say queen are unoriginal, quite the opposite. Who else would have decided to invent bohemian rhapsody ? Even if someone else had the idea there is no way they would have got it to work.

Queen can be fairly accused of being slightly bland though. They take rock's edge and soften it and polish it, so its a bit more in the direction of pop.

Not necessarily a bad thing.

Written some great tracks, and have one of the best front men in rock history.

They should have called it a day though, rather than get Paul Rogers on board.

Was on a rugby trip with the lads U14s team and on the coach everyone could sing along to the Queen tracks. Some testament to their longevity and how their songs appeal across the ages.

I also can't count the number of times the 'Another One Bites the Dust' rift has been sampled and ripped and used by others Wink

...and as a soundtrack to drive/ride to then Queen I and Queen II (aka single hits Shocked) is ok.

Queen are the most overrated band ever in my opinion. Along with the Beatles. They had a few decent songs that have been overplayed to death and are now shit just like the other 90% of their material.

That was my first thought too.

I'll tell you what ruined them for me... that sarcastic 'comedian' and 'writer' Ben fucking Elton. The only thing he did that was any good was Blackadder.

We Will Rock You... what a total load of total shite. I could have written that, and it would have been better.

Think the're fab, if ponly for the few tunes that I care to listen to, probably the more comerical ones, but I dont think anyone can doubt the FM had a brilliant voice, and judging from any live footage, the guy could bring the fucking house down, what more could you want from a band.

Queen Live Killers, is a brilliant album. To be played at full volume in full voice.
I'm more of a Bowie & Iggy Pop fan but Queen does stand up there.

They've done some good tracks. Over rated on the whole though. (Please note the letter 'w' before the word 'hole' before the dodgy Freddy jokes start.)
