What exactly should I be looking for in a new TV??

I'm after something 32 to 42 inch and while I'd like to go as cheap as possible I am prepared to pay the money for a quality one if that makes sense.

Some sales guy was talking to me about screen res/ratio?? I know that 1080 is the best HD but do I really need it???

Anyone got any suggestions???

Thanks

Well i recently got a sony bravia 32V4000, its only 720p but the ps3 and blu-ray is immense.

The contrast ratio is something to look at, my sony is 30000:1, where as the equivalent samsung and LG were 10000:1 and 15000:1 and you can really notice the difference. Aparently it determines the sharpness of the picture (blacks are more black, whites are whiter etc)

I only wanted to spend around 300-350 (didn't really know how much they were though) but spent £450 from currys digital, i could of got it for £370 from amazon (£410 posted) but i wanted the peace of mind of getting it from a shop.

I'm looking at a samsung 5 series, full 1080 HD.

Looked at the 4 series which was only 720p but I could notice the differance between the 4 and 5 series, but I could see the differance between the 5 and 6.

costs around £600 for a 40 incher,
but wife says size matters Shocked
