Well saturday morning the post arrived and i had a few letters one of which i thought looked quite special as it had green paper inside, all excited i open it to find.

Gutted, didnt even see the van there, apparently was on the side grass verge, half in the bushes.

Right anyway ive been offered the speedcourse, which will save me 3 points, just wondered if anyone here had done the speecourse and could tell what its like?

Restrict your bike and then claim their equipment is faulty as your bike is restricted to 30mph. Thumbs Up

I always though vans needed to be seen and fully marked. And that they had to pull you over there an then. Obviously not then.

It seems a bit naughty to me really as wheres the road safety side of hiding and not making people slow down ?

Just pay the 100 quid or whatever it is to do the speed course.

Getting points on a provisional is stupid.

Sitting in a room being lectured on how speed is bad MMkkkaaaayyyy, some times they get you to explain to kiddies on school trips why you were speeding. Still better than getting points.

BTW, Poor obs. Wink

@Dec - would do that, but thats alot of hassle tbh lol

@nick606 - i thought the same, but itd seem not, no signs or anything about ive went where they i was told it was, and it was in a bit of a inconspicious place where the 40 goes straight to a 30 apparently thats where they aim Embarassed

@Finglonga - ive been told by other people as well something to do with videos or something that are really gorey as well?

Might be worth having a look at this link for some info.

If I remember correctly there's emphasis on speed kills. Yet there are other articles (that I can't find at the moment) that states most accidents actually occur well below 30mph (hey! because people brake) yet that arguement doesn't quite meet the propaganda. Inappropriate use of speed may be hazardous, yet that's not an easy soundbite for the marketing people.

Best advice is just turn up, nod and make the right noises, then go home.

Can't really go wrong with that. Thumbs Up

It's worth listening a bit, but at the end of the day, it's just a way of avoiding points. It really is a bit of a non event to be honest.

Looked at the link.
and alright, costs 60 quid according to the sheet?
And i must of just squeezed the limit of getting offered a course as it ends at 37mph.

Did mine and at the end when asked what I thought of the course told them it was exactly how I thought it would be. Asked to explain I said a bunch of people telling me speeding is bad with no real understanding of why people speed or why speed limits are arbitrary and are for the most of the day pointless.

Funniest bit was when they showed a picture for a couple of seconds and asked us to say what we had seen. One bloke spent ages describing the picture perfectly to an extent where they had to check it to see if he was right. They then asked if he was a biker as his obs were so good, he said he was and they looked so sanctimonious until he added that the reason he knew it so well was because he used to live in the village where the pic was taken Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

End of day, £60 and half a day holiday is better than 3 points and the insurance hassle if you already have some points. Next time get caught in Wiltshire or Devon and Dorset as you'll get another go at the course inside the 2 year limit Razz

Every area is different, I would rather watch a gory video than have to explain to a room full of 7 year olds why I was speeding. Confused

All the best

You have to be offered it.

Plus you have to get caught in certain areas to get them i think Laughing

It's also limited to minor speeding offences and not every county is doing it.

Somerset speed course is a helpful one, I haven't done it, but someone I know has and it wasn't all gory videos (might have been one or two pictures with some ex-people in it)...

Oh, and for the record, they sit near the turn off for Monkton Heathfield (Tacchi Morris Arts centre sign), aiming both ways. Also North Petherton (Taunton side, facing down the hill from the bus stop). And Taunton Road in Bridgwater near the BMW dealer, but on the petrol station side of the road, pointing towards Bridgwater. And I got caught by a copper (not safecam) who was sat in the big layby opposite Thurloxton fruit growers pointing it up the hill towards Pethy.

Wheres the turnoff the monkton heathfield anything else near it?

And the petherton one after the park when it changes limit ye?

The taunton road one is usually on the verge next to the garage/car selling place, nearly got dun there last time, till i noticed it the back window open and anchored down.

and up that hill? the one i have to do go off the clock to make it, as the 50 looses speed fast Laughing

Im still quite confused where the camera was that caught me, i know it was between the landrover and jag showroom, and the bathpool pub after the humpback bridge, but not sure where the camera was lol.

As you are going towards Taunton, just before you get to the humpback bridge, it's in the 30 limit...

tutton wrote:

Again going towards Taunton, after the park, and the left bend, on the other side of the road there's a bus stop...

tutton wrote:

...and you'll have been too late - if they'd wanted to do you you'd be 'dun' now! Basic rule is that once you've seen them it's all down to the postman.
