First thing to do is to see what DVD drive chip you have. There is a internet site that calculates the chip you have from the serial number you enter.

https://wiitracker.nintendo-scene.com/search.php

Depending on the type of chip, will depend on how complex the installation is.

If you do go ahead with installing a Wii chip then use a 15W soldiering iron or less otherwise you will ruin your PCB and the soldier points. You can also, pay people to install the chip for around £100 all in.

if it is one of the very first ones then you can chip it yourself for the grand total of about £2.50 lol.

I bought my wii chipped and ready to go in Singapore and the only problem I have is playing games that have been region locked such as mario galaxy and mario kart. You have to be careful you don't play any games that will update your wii with foreign firmware updates (i.e. my wii is japanses so if a Yank game requests to update my wii I refuse). This can break the wii, but other than that theres no real harm in chipping the wii as the majority of games work with it.

Ok if its the very early version then its easy as no pins on the chip etc are cut Smile

so goto ebay or the like and buy a pic12F629 and socket (not really needed but makes an external install a lot neater) program this with wiifree or the like and install job done.
you probably wont have a programmer so either find someone who does or buy one. iirc ebay do one for about £4

https://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/index.php?title=WiiFree

programmer = £4 ish
chip and socket = £2
so either £2 if you have programmer or 6 if you dont.

Just looked and I've no wii chips left here atm or I would have sent you one programmed, wont be getting anymore either tbh as most of the console i now see are newer version.

If you have never soldered then tbh I suggest you get somebody else to do it lol. I just fixed one that somebody butchered, looked like they used a blowtorch ffs

Why has this post been rated as spam?

That and the one below it?

I think this is interesting, not something I would do myself but meh.

Thumbs Up

You can thank the now banned 'China-Supplier' for the Spam rating. He decided to try to use every thread in the 'Geek' section to try and sell some shit. Fortunately I was browsing at the time and brought it to G's attention who promptly banned him. Thumbs Up
