if you park you bike on a pavement, as you want to chain it to a lampost, can you put a cover over it to prevent youself from getting a ticket, or will the wanker take it off and look at the registration plate

Will be done for failure to display then ( or maybe perverting the course of justice ) and may get removed.

If you do park your bike on the pavement, technically you could be causing an obstruction to pedestrians.

If a pedestrian walked into it or tripped over it the owner of the bike would be liable for causing an accident. Then the pedestrian could file an insurance claim for damages.

It is always better to park legally even if you do have to pay. I got told this off a traffic warden when I did it once.

In London, parking attendants are allowed to remove anything obscuring the licence plate, e.g., a plastic bag or a bike cover.

Also, if you don't display a tax disc, they can remove your bike, and probably will, too, if it's parked on the pavement.

On a related note, what do you do in pay&display car parks, where there are no dedicated bike bays, and no notices indicating an exemption for bikes?

If you park in a car space then expect to either buy a ticket, or get a much larger ticket for failing to pay.

Better to find a corner where a car can't park and leave it there. Also if it has any staff around ask them.

Ive been told to tear the ticket in half and leave half on the bike and half with you, a way if it dose fall off or get nicked by some kid thinking he cool, you have proof that you got a ticket. But i know ASDA car park near me let bikes park for free. Talking to the parking warden who walks around. Best to find a solo motorcycle bay (witch are fucking useless because they have nothing to lock the fucking bike to, wankers)

I live south east london and when I do need to park on the pavement i slip a carried bag over the plate an flip the tax disc around.

Never had any issues with this. As far as I know the attendants aren't allowed to touch your bike what so ever.

But after reading this thread i'm worried that i've just been lucky so far.

They are allowed to remove the carrier bag. Apparently, you could be a terrorist...

So, yes, you've been lucky. Don't quite see why you need to park on the pavement, though, as roads have been invented.

You never need to park on the pavement in the eyes of the law, its your responsibility to find a suitable parking space for the vehicle. As already said you have been very lucky not getting a ticket as they have been able to remove anything covering the numberplate/tax disc for over a year now.

I'll keep that in mind.

OK so maybe it isn't a NEED to park on the pavemnet, but it's so much easier to park across the road from, or outside, a shop you're only going to be 2 seconds in.

And mostly covered in thick yellow lines, forcing bikers to park down side roads.

For me, it's more a matter of not wanting to leave my bike down a side road where I'm not able to see it being dragged into the back of a van.

Well, I guess it's better that i stop now rather than end up with a ticket and looking for the attendant who issued it
