i now have that excitement of butterlfies that i use to have when i was a teen. at 23 i don't get nervous over many things anymore but i am now
i can't wait to see how i am with a bigger bike. been on my rs 125 for 3 and a half years because i have been lazy and also because i wouldn't really be able to buy a good 600 and insurance would be a killer if i did it too soon.
well wish me and my boss luck on our lessons and test. i wish anyone else luck on their tests too. it's not cheap either so i definitely want to pass first time :s hopefully not that many bad habits. ____________________ Hit the G spot. |

With over three years on a 125 you must have built up
so much experience and confidence as a rider that you'll
sail through the test and won't need to rely on good luck.
But anyway..., good luck. And I hope to be reading about
the 600 you've chosen in your next post. ____________________ This post is sponsored by QUILLIES LOZENGES. Suck QUILLIES for fast throat relief! |

ok update;
my boss is going good apart from he can't counter steer too well on u turns and sometimes flops it. he should get there in the end. he has only had a cbr 125 for 3 months or so and therefore can't counter steer that well yet.
i made a huge mistake today. my boss was infront and i was in the middle. he was told to go to the left onto a bus lane while i was behind him. a car was infront of him and he took ages. i was like okay fuk this and looked in my mirror and didn't see anything. went left onto the bus lane and then did a quick life saver and saw a taxi zooming to me. i quickly tried to kinda ride as far right as i could without hitting the car infront of my boss. apparently i had 3 inches. very close escape and lesson learnt. i was too impatient and should have just taken it easy.
i was lucky not to get sent home. both were kinda in shock and said i am one lucky fella.
apart from that big ass fuck up we are doing great. the instructor said we can ride the gs 500 easily and should pass if we don't do anything stupid like that. i feel silly for the taxi incident but it has taught me to be patient. my boss needs to work on his steering on u turns and i need to stay on low revs (i'm use to my rs 125)
i'm so use to revving the nuts off my bike and always doing 50 that i am getting too impatient when we are doing 20/30. that is the only reason i can explain why i just tried to zing it onto the bus lane.
day one has been good because we impressed him at the first ride, very bad on the middle ride since i nearly got hit and then great on the last ride. the last ride we both were very patient and just cruising and everything was perfect. the u turns were 100% for me and about 90% for my boss. emergency stops can be improved a little bit but we are more or less doing it right 80% of the time now. i sometimes pull the clutch in too soon since i'm use to doing everything quick i.e. changing gears fast since i'm on a 125. my boss seems to be in the wrong gear sometimes.
well my boss should pass when he does 100% u turns and stays in the right gear for the emergency stop.
i need to keep my revs sometimes abit lower since i tend to accelerate fast (legal speeds) and not get wound up at 20/30 mph rides and then do a silly mistake.
gotta try and keep it like i'm a cruiser on a harley and i should pass.
role on day 2 and i vow not to do anything dumb again.
ps. loving the rides on the gs 500. very comfortable ____________________ Hit the G spot. |

well i am just done with the second day. solved my high revving but am accused of going too slow sometimes like 45 in a 50. i only do it on some bends but ah well.
emergency braking is almost perfect apart from i sometimes stay in neutral when changing down to first while looking over my right side.
u turns always been good. if i fail on a u turn i'll kick myself.
it seems the only thing i need to look out for is try and stay in the far left lane (which are invisible in erif where my test will be) for any turns before 12 o clock. i tend to just go straight onto 12 o clock turns instead of stay on the far left. that should be resolved on the 3rd day hopefully and then i'll be pretty confident.
my boss sometimes goes far on the u turns still but is getting there. generally he is very good on the road since he has been driving for years and knows what lanes to be in etc.
we are both feeling aches. he has aches on his legs i think while i have pains with my hands. i normally wear large gloves and i ordered some alpinestars gp pro's in large. (i had a pair of large ones before until i lost one glove somehow) they ran out of stock and said medium might fit so i got it ordered. they didn't really fit but i was too lazy to post them back. they have stretched over the months but on the long rides it feels really uncomfortable. my instructor said that my muscles are always fighting the glove which will cause pain lol.
so now it's time to rest and maybe worth while thinking of borrowing my friends gloves. can't afford to buy a new set of gp pro's :/ ____________________ Hit the G spot. |

failed.
woke up at 6.30 to get to my bike instructors shop at 7.15. had a ride to erith and did my test at 9.45
my boss failed too. my boss got a foot down on a u turn (very surprised since he sorted out the counter steering issue) and also he was gonna overtake a parked bus but it pulled out infront of him and he emergency braked. the examiner was on his arse so that was a major aswell. it wasn't looking good when two brothers came out failing and we were like hopefully we will be okay.
i had a serious fault and a dangerous one on steering... lol and 4 minors on steering... done really badly.
i had 3 other minor faults. one because a stupid lady with a pram on a zebra crossing was standing there and didn't move when there was two cars infront slowing down for her. she had no movement and wasn't even looking at them so they carried on. as i was gonna carry on assuming she wasn't intending to cross she looked at me so i stopped quite sharply. i was annoyed with her but then thinking again i guess she obviously aint gonna put her pram on the road with two cars. but the thing is she didn't even look at them so i assumed she wasn't gonna cross. at the end he said i didn't see her til late but i told him how it all happened and i saw her straight away actually but he said don't argue.
the other fault was front brake when i shouldn't somewhere. not even sure where since i am pretty good on braking.
other one was a minor for speeding. we did about 3 miles at 50 on a long dual carriage way. went onto a round about and then onto another road. there were cars doing about 40 i would guess so i was taking it easy going back to 50 when i saw a bus stop and said okay there's lamposts let's assume it's a 30. luckily i was only at about 35 when i realised. this was my bad i should have seen a sign i guess. i'm assuming i was concentrating on my left check and indicator and missed the sign.
well let's talk about the steering. he said that everytime i turn left i do it wrong. i was quite shocked at that because i can ride good. my instructor told me after he needs to look at it since he didn't see anything wrong. he does say i liked to speed in corners during our lessons but i toned it down a lot. got 4 marks for that.
the dangerous and serious. (not sure if you an get ticked for both for one incident) there was a 30 mile road with loads of forrest/trees. i was doing 30 and he said something. he said it again and i heard turn left. i braked quite sharp and tried to make it. i didn't and went over white lines on the turn. i should have told him about it which i now regret. he stopped me in tow left turns for a u turn and emergency braking. i did it great and was chuffed. he asked me if there was anything i wanted to ask. i said yeah turn the radio louder. i should have told him that left turn was bad because i heard you only the second time but oh well i would have failed anyway for the 4 minors. i told him well when i asked for the sound to be higher i didn't hear you for the first time you said left. he said well you should have adjusted it yourself. (he did tell me how so i suppose no excuse)
so i guess it's back to the drawing board. i am someone who gets angry with myself and upset but this time i aint doing too badly. i am a better rider than before my lessons. i intend to do my test again very soon (depends on cost - was £625 for 3 days lessons and test)
i have to say people slate 500's for lack of power but i enjoy it so much. the gs 500 is conformable, with okay power and i just love it. i had a great time and a good few laughs with my boss, the instructor and someone else that sometimes rode with us. good luck dave, he has his test tomorrow. biking is in my blood and i hope that this is a small hick up in my biking life. the instructor had some big hands when he shook me. can't argue with a man with big hands ____________________ Hit the G spot. |

well i feel that i was unlucky on the pedestrian but it was only a minor so not that important.
the left turn that was overdone would have been better if i didn't rely on listening to someone. if it was a turn i was gonna do by myself then i would have slowed down and been in the right position sooner for a turn. in hindsight i should have tapped my helmet and carried on straight.
but it's not really unlucky because i'm riding the bike. i wish it was but he would have failed me on the steering issue on left turns. i did have 4 minors. it's bugging me what steering issues but i will get my instructor to check it out. we are both mystified on it actually.
sometimes you hear stories of someone doing a cbt, then a few lessons and test and pass first time and think wow it must be easy.
sometimes you hear people traveling 100 miles to an unknown place and sleeping in a tent before their test and they pass and you think damn man it must be easy. the reality for me is that i failed but even so i feel great that i have had 4 days off work and had a laugh riding around.
for anyone about to do their test and have read this thread, i hope you all the best on yours. take it easy and don't panic then you always have a good chance to pass. ____________________ Hit the G spot. |
