Just a few questions,

Indication:
Do I need to indicate if the road is empty. Eg, if I'm to pass a stationary vehicle on my left, after I've lifesaved, do I need to indicate my way round the vehicle?

Do I need to indicate into/out of an empty junction, etc?

---

If I'm in trafic, moving along step by step, do I have to lifesave for every single incremental movement?

--

Is it considered good practise to put the bike in neutral at a stop?

--

Should the bike only ever be started with me on it? Sometimes I start the bike to warm up, whilst I'm getting my boots on, etc (obviously in neutral).

--

OBSERVATIOn
At the moment, I am
right shoulder chceking when moving off from stationary - do I need to left chcek as well (i.e. moving off from a red light). Do I need to check my mirrors before?

- LIfesaver when going round a obstacle in teh road.
- Right/left check when turning into junctions.
- SHoulder checking when entering a roundabout, shoulder chceking when exiting it.

What am I not doing that I should? What's the actual step-by-step process. I'm doing mirrors > shoulder check/lifesvaer > indication (if traffic) > slowing down > shoulder chcek (if stopped for a while) > into junctions, etc.

---

If a ped looks as though he/she might cross the road, but is, say, a few metres away from the curb, should I stop? I usually do out of courtesy, but on the test, should I only stop if a foot is about to touch the road?

--

Is it okay to go 20 in a 30 if there's lots of parked cars about, etc? I often do. Should I assume that heavily residential areas are 20, even if not specified?

I’ve been told not to indicate when passing a stationary vehicle parked on the side of the road unless I need to cross the white lines I think.

Do I need to indicate into/out of an empty junction, etc?
YES

---

If I'm in trafic, moving along step by step, do I have to lifesave for every single incremental movement?
That’s one I’m not sure of either, but it won't hurt to do a shoulder check every time you edge forward, probably better to leave a bigger gap too.
--

Is it considered good practise to put the bike in neutral at a stop?
I would say it depends how long you’re stopping for, if you stop at traffic light then I would say no but if you pull over to use your mobile or something then yes.
--

Should the bike only ever be started with me on it? Sometimes I start the bike to warm up, whilst I'm getting my boots on, etc (obviously in neutral).
Only with you on it and switched off before you get off

I’ve been told to do full observations when moving off from a stationary position in case another motorbike or cyclist has come along either side of you

- LIfesaver when going round a obstacle in teh road. – and another when moving back to the centre after the obstacle
- Right/left check when turning into junctions.
- SHoulder checking when entering a roundabout, shoulder chceking when exiting it. - Lifesaver before you change lanes to exit not forgetting to signal too before you change lanes

What am I not doing that I should? What's the actual step-by-step process. I'm doing mirrors > shoulder check/lifesvaer > indication (if traffic) > slowing down > shoulder chcek (if stopped for a while) > into junctions, etc.
Observations, signal, observations, manoeuvre, observations, cancel signal
---

If a ped looks as though he/she might cross the road, but is, say, a few metres away from the curb, should I stop? I usually do out of courtesy, but on the test, should I only stop if a foot is about to touch the road? Not sure what you mean

Answers in red.

No, just make sure you make your observations early and that the examiner has seen that you have seen the hazard.

Do I need to indicate into/out of an empty junction, etc?

Not sure what you mean here, if you make a turn that changes your direction, lets say if you are travelling north and you need to turn into a junction that takes you west, then you need to make other road users aware of what you are up to. Just make sure you cancel them

---

If I'm in trafic, moving along step by step, do I have to lifesave for every single incremental movement?

Again, not sure what you mean, you need to make an observation when you move off, change lane or change speed from say a 40 to a national, and vice versa. You can't over do observations, but don't let it become your primary focus.

--

Is it considered good practise to put the bike in neutral at a stop?

Not always, I was taught to have all of your down changes done before you stop, and to keep your foot in the safety position when stationary(right foot on rear brake). You don't want to be swapping legs to get into gear before you move off.

--

Should the bike only ever be started with me on it? Sometimes I start the bike to warm up, whilst I'm getting my boots on, etc (obviously in neutral).

This is a qualified bikers bad habit. To start the bike from an examiners point of view you need to be on the bike, in the safety position (right foot on rear brake) and in neutral, most bke will require the clutch lever to be in before you can start it.

OBSERVATIOn

The way i was taught is to right, left, right again then move off.

- LIfesaver when going round a obstacle in teh road.
Yes
- Right/left check when turning into junctions.
Yes
- SHoulder checking when entering a roundabout, shoulder chceking when exiting it.
Yes, left observation as you approach the round about to make sure nothing has come up your inside

What am I not doing that I should? What's the actual step-by-step process. I'm doing mirrors > shoulder check/lifesvaer > indication (if traffic) > slowing down > shoulder chcek (if stopped for a while) > into junctions, etc.

Have you not learned something along the lines of OSMPSL?

Observation
Signal
Manouvre
Position
Speed
Look

Unless they are at a crossing with controlled lights, then you have the right of way, if would acknowledge that you have seen them, and be prepared to slow down, but DO NOT stop in the road just to let a person across.

Yes, this is good practice.

Technically, if the engine is running, then you can be prosecuted for using a mobile whilst in control of a vehicle!!! Thumbs Down So pull over safely,(car and bike), switch off then use mobile!

And, if you stop to answer your phone on the test, I don't fancy your chances of a pass.

I agree with all of your answers except this one.... I would drive/ride as per your answer, as a qualified driver, on my test I would indicate, because there could always be someone you have not seen, suddenly appear, I.E. from a drive way or junction, of course you would need to be aware of mistakenly giving false signals if there is a junction!! Use your personal judgement, but to (sort off) contradict my own answer....ask yourself "is there anyone who could benefit from advanced knowledge of my intentions?", then you can decide if you want to signal or not, ( sounds long winded, but it's not really)
