Windows 7.

Sounds a lot better than Vista.

Read the fucking thing. The codename was Windows 7 and for the first time ever it will actually be called Windows 7. The two codenames before this were Vienna and Blackcomb. The codename for Vista was Longhorn.

www.custompc.co.uk has the news as well if you are to doubt sources.

Microsoft's names still baffle me, once NT4 got a decent name they dropped it and called NT5 Windows 2000, when they prettied up NT5 with a point release to 5.1 they called it XP and 5.2 became 2003 server...

NT6 was released as Vista with 2008 as it's server, and now with the new Windows 7 we see NT7... well no its just a point release to NT6.1 and it's server is 2008R2.

So what is Windows 7 probably just Longhorn/NT6/Vista with some of the stuff they never got to work in time added back in, not even a whole release...

Vista is pretty much a /part/ release of 7.

Well, no.

Windows 7 had been used as a codename for months. However it was only a couple of days ago it was made official that it would be used as the final name.

Everyone seems to think that Windows 7 will be a different monster completely to Vista. It is not. More evolutionary that revolutionary, but by 2010 i'll want a new PC anyway so will probably get it.
