Since a load of threads seem to be popping up about insurance at the mo I thought I'd jump on the bandwagon since mine will need renewing at the end of the month.

1) Excess
I'm going for £0 voluntary excess at the mo with Ebike and there doesn't seem to be any compulsory excess apart from if the bike is taken against statements I've made with the policy. I.e bike is kept overnight in a garage, if it's nicked from near my house when it isn't in the garage between 12pm and 4 am then I have to pay the first £150.
With other quotes I've done I've put £0 excess but then they all seem to lump compulsory excess on at £150 or more... why and what for??

2) Licence type
So I've got a full A2 licence (limited to 33bhp), yet a lot of the quotes I've done don't have this as an option - it's either Full Licence, Provisional Licence, International Licence or Moped Licence... so which one is mine - provisional or full!?

On a good note, with Ebike my SLR650 comes in at £162 for the year fully comp inc breakdown and £0 excess! Dance!
No other insurance company has even come close without adding a ridiculous excess cost with breakdown included!!

Your license is a "full" one. In the small print it usually says something like "you must have the license for the bike you`re riding" so if you have a restricted bike @ 33bhp you have the correct license so no worries Thumbs Up

Generally with £0 excess, it's a sales ploy. Also means generally they'll undervalue your bike, and when questioned they'll come back with "But you pay no excess!". Rolling Eyes

Nil excess policies are very rare and i dont think ive seen many bike policies with a nil compulsory excess. The excess is there to prevent people claiming for little £20 scratches etc and wasting insurance company time and resource.
