Since we are now being told that sleeping more than 7.5 hours or so, is bad for your health etc. Does anyone have a problem getting up when they don't have to. Seeminly reducing life expectancy doesnt bother me that much.

And I don't mean like 10am, if left alone to my own devices, I can, like today, stay there until 4-5pm, I have in the past just stayed there the whole day and into the following nights sleep.

A lot of this is down to self discipline, I just can't be arsed at the weekend or when not working, plenty to do if I really wanted, like fixing various vans/bikes etc but nothing that won't wait... forever.

Anyone else struggle?

Yep, I find it quite easy to just fall straight back to sleep and could easily manage almost 24 hours sleep (have done in the past) if I don't need to get up for anything.

I sometimes wonder if it's because I'm lazy or because I have a sleeping problem ie, disturbed sleeps.

Nah, I hate myself if I get up later than about 10 at weekends because I feel like I've wasted the day.

I didn't really need to get up today but once I woke and saw it was half 9 I got up, did some cleaning and tidying (I is well domesticated) then popped in to town to do some shopping.

I actually feel annoyed with myself if I stay in bed too late, just because I now I could've achieved something if I'd got up at a decent time.

I don't have to be up tomorrow but I'll be up by about half 9, shower and breakfast etc then head to the pub and sit in the corner doing some writing, if I don't do it then I've wasted the day.

Does nobody else get annoyed if they get to the end of the weekend and realise they've achieved fuck all?

Yup, but doesn't stop me sleeping for 75% of it. Wasting (technically) every weekend, week after week.

I'll try to excuse this behaviour in the name of rest; I consider I do a physically tiring job, requires little in the way of brainpower, but in terms of ton/metre moved its heavy going, so am constantly tired/sore/broken.

Anyway, if Hetzer's theory of activity simply to distract from the pointlessness of everything is to believed, then that extra wasted weekend really doesn't matter a jot, surely? Sleeping is after all, the ultimate distracting activity Wink

I'm basically the same. I have to be truly, truly knackered to sleep past about 10am, and I tend to get roughly 7 hours a night on average. I enjoy my sleep, but I enjoy my waking hours too and at least when I'm awake I get stuff done.

Same here on weekends. I do feel as though I've wasted it most times but think I must have needed it.

I often go to bed later on weeknights, quite later but usually up for shower around 7.30. Wouldn't say I get 7 hours on average there. Confused Probably where my extra weekend sleep time comes from. Laughing

Indeed, most weekend I'm like Goose, as he knows, often don't get up until gone midday and the day is pretty much a write off with it getting dark early now. I know what my problem is though, it's because of my shift times, even if I finish work at midnight (early for me) I'l sit up on the computer til 4am meaning it's very hard to get up before midday.

Thursday night (friday morning) I went to bed at 4.30am as is fairly usual, I have fri/sat off work. I got up at 7.30 as had to go Manchester, I had to stop and go to sleep at about 2pm I felt so tired, then again at 7pm then was ok, and stayed up once again until 4am before bed. Up at 9 this morning to see a bike off and just went back to bed after until 2pm Smile Done sod all really. I don't see a way of fixing it though due to irregular working times and having to squeeze a meal in before bed etc. I get indigestion the next day if I go to bed too soon after eating so I have to stay up a while or go to bed painfully hungry/

Oh shit yeah . I can quite easily sleep away the whole weekend.
Even more so if we had shit weather like yours.
makes it a bit harder to do now it's getting warmer and it's up over 30 during the days.

I've always promised myself I'm going to take a holiday from work and just sleep away a whole week.

I always feel like I've never had enough sleep Mad

I did that about 3 weeks ago, had allsorts of important jobs lined up to do, but slept til about 4pm most days. Felt no better than before by the end of the week, so don't waste your time.

I sleep too much. Monday to friday is generally go to bed at 4-5 in the morning, get up at 2 in the afternoon. Go to work at 4. Finish work at 9 and stay up till 4-5 following morning.

Weekends are different tho spend most of it mortally drunk or doing 14 hour shifts in a pub.

Nope i'm a weirdo in that no matter how tired I am, i'll sill be up by 9am. Just hate the thought of wasting a day sleeping. Truth be told i'd love it if you could survive without sleep.

I could do that when I was a teenager.

I think that as you get older you need less sleep.

Same here. I'm more like that at night, though. I tend to stay up really late rather than get up early. Sleeping is such a waste of life... Think about it, if you live until you're 60, you've only really lived 40 years if we're honest (on average). It really winds me up. Laughing

Yeah I do that, I find it so hard to make myself go bed most nights, just because I don't feel exhausted and know I could easily stay up another hour or 2.

When I was young I could sleep forever. I can't do it anymore, even when I think I'd like to. I'm pretty sure it's a function of youth.

Good point about it being a worthy distraction though. If there's nothing pleasurable to be had while awake why not spend it asleep? Shortens life expectancy? So fvcking what, who the hell wants to live a day longer than necessary in this nazi shit-hole of a world? The older I get the more I look forward to returning to the real reality. But not until I've disharged all my obligations.

I hate going to bed but I hate getting up more. Now and then, on a weekend, I'll sleep for 17 hours.

Sleeping more than7-8 hours is just a waste of time in terms of catching up on sleep. You can't "catch up on sleep." After a good night you are topped up and do not need anymore. Holidays are important and different, extened periods of rest.

Nothing wrong with the odd nap or chill out morning in bed.

My experience is that people who stay in bed/sleep to much are: ill, drugged up, teenagers, peace activists, depressed or lazy twats who can't be arsed.

I've been agreeing with you a lot recently Hetzer.

But that just sounds a little bit TOO mental for me.
