what bike suits my experience??

hi all, first post on here. Im am in the middle of direct access training. Im looking to purchase a bike shortly. Im 27, have ridden bikes on and off since i was knee high. Had a few years with a dtr125 from 13-16yrs old. Was on the road at 16 with a derbi gpr50r. 2yrs on the road. A huge gap in between but riding various trail/moto x 125/250s. Back on the road at 26 with the derbi in preperation for test. Most powerful bike i have ridden is a xj600. Found the power safe and easily controllable. Bike feels a little big and hefty though. I much prefer the super sport riding style out of all the bikes i have ridden over the years. Therefore there is only one category of bike that appeals to me when it comes to purchasing one. The supersport 600. I have had a small ride up and down a street on a cbr600 - not ridden it out. The most comfortable bike i have sat on which i immediately felt like this bike was made for me (position/feel wise) is an r6. So with my experience is an r6 a plausible first 'real' bike for me?? Most people ive asked in person (instructors etc) have said it would be a good bike to choose because of size, weight handling and brakes, just go easy with the throttle! However most people on the various post ive read say AVOID AVOID AVOID! Im intersested to know what people think. It probably wont sway my decision as im pretty one track minded ha but id like to know others opinions, fire away cheers Thumbs Up

If it fits you, and you feel you can be sensible with the throttle for a few hundred miles, then why not?

All I can suggest, is try the other 600 sports out there before you put all that money on a bike. CBR600RR, ZX6R, GSXR600, Daytona

Cheers Rowey. Do you know if there is much size difference between the zx6r and the zx9r?? I really love the zx6r j1 but when i sat on a zx9r it felt a little clumsy. Like the GSX6r too but heard there very very raw. I think i will try a few to be sure. I was contemplating an old gsxr400 but i want something fairly new really. Any opinions on these other bikes? Thumbs Up

the zx6r J model is ok although a bit heavier than the R6
the 2003 A1p 636 is basicaly the same as the J model but 636cc.
the 6r or 636 (same bike but 2mm bigger bore) from 2004 (B1 model onwards) are a much lighter bike, same as the R6.
i have 2 636C models (2005 track bike and 2006 road bike) and i love em.
you will find the kawasaki's to be a slightly bigger bike but no heavier.
keep the R6 below 10,000 rpm and you will be ok until you get used to the handling/brakes etc. the 636 has more mid range power.
all the 600's/636 go ballistic after around 10,000 rpm Twisted Evil

Cheers fellas. I think i will consider a J1, but i cant help feel that the extra size will put me off, shame as i love them they are a very tasty looking bike. The Anologue dash, no fuel guage and carbs puts me off a little, feels a bit outdated technology for such a cutting edge and modern sports bike. Do the early r6's run on carbs??
