I have got a suzuki bandit 600 and it clunks when you put it into 1st and 2nd gear but the rest are fine. Is this normal or is the clutch on its way out?
please help..........

The chain is about right has been checked it is not a bad clunk it is a normal chagning gear sound. As pete's clutch is not slipping either.

Sounds fucked! Razz

nah, i think most bikes 'clunk' into first, so i wouldn't worry!

And if you rev it enough in first then you won't hear the 'clunking' gear changes!! Problem solved!

As your bike warms up, the oil between the plates warms up. Apparently the ‘clunking’ of the first gear is because the oil hasn’t warmed up enough yet.
This is only my opinion; however I am not sure about the ‘clunk’ in second. It might just be as with the first but it would still be a good idea to get a couple of people’s opinions as to what it might be!

The clutch basket could be worn out or the bearing on the back of the basket may be worn.

Yeah, there should be a clunk into first, all other bikes I have ridden do this.

All other bikes I have ridden go smoothly into second though. If it's clunking into second then there could be something wrong - get it checked out I say!

Hi

If it is getting worse that quickly then I would doubt the basket is the problem.

How tight is your clutch cable adjusted? If there is not enough free play then it will put a constant load on the thrust bearing in the clutch, which will fail quite quickly then. When this happened to my Diversion when I bought it the bike had a VERY stiff gear change, and when put on the centre stand with the engine running and in gear, pulling the clutch stopped the rear wheel almost immediatly (like putting the brake on).

All the best

Keith
