I'm only getting around 80miles from £7.50-8 of petrol, apparently I should get 130miles before reserve (minimum) when thrashing it (still with around £8) Confused It's a Suzuki GS500 (98')

It's been sitting in the shop for about 5 months plus, doesn't seem to be leaking anywhere, any ideas?

Cheers!

£7.50 of fuel?? thats about 7-8 litres..... 130 miles out of that?? i think thats optimistic, i believe the gs500 does 35mpg. my ninja does 31 mpg and from 15 litres i get 140 miles.

regards

This is what I was told by most users on the gs500e message board, some even say they get 150-180 Shocked

If you say 80miles is about right then that's Thumbs Up I was just worried something was wrong with the bike after reading the type of mileage they get out of theirs.

i get about 130 for £7 and my bikes listed at 35mpg??? so i dont think you can follow the number to the dot.

A gs500 is a commuter bike it should do alot more than that.

I could get 180 miles to a tank on the CB5 if I was taking it easy, but it was quite variable depending on the kind of riding I was doing.

Hi

£7.50~£8 is around 2 gallons, which means you are getting about 40mpg. I would expect the GS to manage around 60mpg without any problem.

Check the air filter is clean, check the choke is turning off fully and check that the carbs are clean and working smoothly.

All the best

Keith

As Keith pointed out, the main points to check are the carbs, including checking the choke is fully openeing and closing, and that the float height is correct. Have you had your carbs balenced lately? May be time to get it done.
