Telegraph Article

If it was to happen a couple of times a year then fair enough, but 44 times a year !!! Seriously, that's almost once a week.

Perhaps they should make the intelligence tests a little harder to get into the Police.

If they really need something to shout "DIESEL" at them when they open the fuel cap, then perhaps they should take on a role with a little less responsibility. I can only imagine how embarrassed they are at the petrol station. Embarassed

I don't understand how people can ever put the wrong kind of fuel in.

On almost all cars you can tell instantly from the sound of the engine and how it drives. And the fact that the rev counter only goes up to 5 or 6 instead of 7 or 8.

Quite true. I have used petrol/diesel vehicles, often changing several times a day, and have never even picked up the wrong nozzle, let alone proceed to fill the tank.

Perhaps I'm just awesome ? Cool

Admittedly I *nearly* put petrol in a Merc CLS320CDI once. But with the beautiful sound it makes and the kick in the back when you prod the loud pedal, you can't blame me for forgetting it was a diesel Very Happy

Laughing

Sorry, I know it's not grammatically correct, but personally I think it looks 'cleaner'.

Just sorted it for you. Wink

Talking petrol caps are probably cheaper than putting the wrong type of fuel in!!

Anyway the LAS have been using these for ages, funny how the newspapers dont write about them using it...

But with an Astra it's really not hard to tell.

Like wading through mud = petrol model
Like wading through mud with lead shoes on = diesel model.
And if it's a van, well, it's not going to run on petrol is it?

You don't even need to be that clever, virtually every Diesel vehicle will say diesel on the fuel cap or cover, then there's the smell, and the filler neck is wider than a petrol one.

I have owned a mix of petrol and diesel cars, always driven diesels at work, petrol bike (obviously), I've never picked up the wrong pump and never would because I always think before I do it, it's not that difficult. Plus I put gloves on before picking up a diesel pump so wouldn't do it all by accident.

When I was in France on the bike an American woman came to me at a service station and asked what fuel she needed, the cap and filler door said Diesel but she didn't believe it. It was a brand new BMW hire car, but she thought BMW only made petrols so was gonna risk it Rolling Eyes Good job she asked instead of trusting her obviously conprehensive knowledge of BMWs and ignoring the multiple instructions around the filler cap.
