Getting used to boots

So far i've been riding in trainers but now i have just got my self some new Nitro Race Boots. I haven't ridden in them yet but sat on my bike and messed around with the gears and the rear brake to see how it felt. It felt really awkward and i couldn't really feel much, they are also quite chunky making it difficult to move around too

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get used to them?

Yep, do plenty of riding while wearing them! I too have a pair of nitro race boots (101's) that i got recently. They were unbeleivably painful at first. And i could hardly feel gears, brake etc. They wear in gradually. I have done a couple hundred miles in them now and they feel awesome. Not 'quite' broken in but almost. I can walk more than 5 yards in them now anyway lol.

i have the Swift TorsionX ones which are basically the same. i first wore them for cadwell early last year and couldnt feel a thing.
since that first time they have been fine, walk about in them for a bit and they will soon be ok. i love mine now

I guess i will just have to keep wearing them and get used to it. The only reason i don't wear them is because my journey is only like 10mins and also i don't fancy walking around uni in them all day

I just got a new pair of Sidi vertigo corsa's and spent two full days walking around at work in them to break them in.

I got to use them on the bike for the first time yesterday and they were spot on

I won't wear anything other than my boots now for riding the bike, I got some RST Vortex, really comfortable, waterproof and offer good protection. They took a little bit of getting used to but I love the feel of them now. I actually find it harder to ride with my trainers on now so don't bother at all.
Just wear them as much as you can and they'll soon break in just like any other footwear

Why not take a bag to college with you so you can take a change of footwear?? Beats walking around in boots and may also prevent some severe pi** taking!

At Uni i already carry 2 bags one with my jacket and kit, the other with my books. I also have to carry my helmet

bummer. Id probably opt for some sturdy footware rather than the booties then but, they gonna be the safest in an accident i suppose, even if you would look a little silly walking round college in them Looks are no substitute for safety and all that lol

I found short motorcycle boots that have laces are the best boots for walking.
I have even climbed a few small mountains in them.

But I must admit shoes are much better for gear lever feal and walking but painful in a bike accident.

Wear them, you'll adjust and then you'll become so acclimatised that it feels wrong not wearing them.

Seriously, Ride the bike in them, walk round town - just get yourself used to wearing them.

I was the same in boots and gloves.

Boots felt ackward, could not feel the gears right and I felt that they were too big and would make me select wrong gears.

Gloves were just weird, it was like I lost all feeling of control on the bike.

But now I dont think anything of it at all, as a matter of course before I go out the whole gear goes on, even if its only 5 or 10 minutes.

People wont take the piss, they will see boots and helmet and know your on a bike.

Thanks for the help people! I'll get wearing them and i doubt anyone will take the piss because there are quite a few bikers at uni and also as wisenerl said once they see the helmet they'll know i ride a bike. Thanks again

I just took a pair of shoes to work in my bag one day, just leave them there and change into them when I get to work.
Would look a bit of a muppet with shirt + tie, trousers and bike boots on

Great budget boots, don't look too bad and I had a milk float run over my feet while wearing them and got away unharmed.
