Theres 3 CAT's in my Yamaha YZF R125 and I wanna get them out so the bike will go as fast as it can. Very Happy

You can't. You must either replace the cat sections with decat pipes, or in the case of a bike with three cats, I'd say you need to replace the whole exhaust for a sports item.

However, this will cause damage to your bike (and I mean severe engine damage) unless you also remap the fuel injection. Preferably with the bike set up on a dyno.

The issue you have with cats is that they make the airflow so slow that the bike runs quite rich, so it is mapped very lean. The race exhaust will lean off the mixture to such an extent that it will damage the bike to run it like that.

Shouldn't of bought an abomination of a bike then... Sports 4 stroke, PMSL.

It's like one of those 3 pot corsa's with a full bodykit.

Those cats are there for a reason. Without them the bike will fail emissions tests. They are also hugely expensive to replace and incredibly fragile. I wouldn't touch them.

If you want faster, sell it, buy an NSR, and spend the rest on hookers and two-stroke oil Laughing

But you keep asking the same questions, the answer being the same, it won't go any faster no matter how you dump the clutch, change gears near the red line or change the exhaust.

Its a 125cc 4t bike, you paid your money now live with it or sell up.

In the US cat equipped bikes are mapped to run richer than none-cat bikes.. owing to the cats cleaning up the emissions so you can run richer than a non-cat variety...

Just wait until one of the major aftermarket exhaust firms, starts making a performace system and race can for it, because they will! Then ideally id wait until someone else has fitted such a system and had the bike dyno'd after, to see what the gains are like and if the ECU copes with the fuelling ok. Seeing as the YZF125R is likely to be a big seller, then you will probably be able to soon buy performance air filter's and even power commanders/piggy back ECU's for them. If it's worth spending that kind of money is highly doubtful, but i did read somewhere in a magazine, that the new Yamaha/Minarelli 125 4valve motor is capable of around 20bhp, which sounds feasible if it's already making 15bhp, and has a restrictive emmission friendly exhaust system etc.

On which bikes?

Need to bear in mind the numbers of people that don't ride euro III complient bikes. Myself included.

If you set the level so that those bikes can pass then you'll still be able to de-cat. If you set the level so only euro III bikes can pass they'd be national outcry and loads of centres fiddling it. In any case you'll still be able to get centres fiddling it much like you can with car places.

Surely it'll be the same as cars. Newer ones will get more stringent tests.

I'm sure the emissions tests are different for a 2008 fuel injected car than a 1985 carbed one.

As far as I'm aware they've got to pass emission tests to get type approval though, hence the big ugly twin pipes on the GSXR1000 etc...

I think theres emission testing on new bikes out of the factory as laid down by the eu on emissions, but nothing on the mot to enforce them. Just a check so that it came out of the factory being as clean as it can be enviroment wise?

Yeah, they have to pass emissions tests to get the bike approved for sale. Nothing stops you decatting it afterwards though. Provided it's out of warrenty since decatting will obviously invalidate it.
