Wife has a 125cc Kazuma Silverfox. Searching Google yields no results for that. The scooter started misfiring and now doesn't start at all. I am going to strip the engine and all that goes along with it, but have no manual for it. Can I use a 'generic' scooter manual, or must it be specific for the scooter? What engine does it have or do you get Kazuma engines?

Thanks for any response.

Sounds like an ignition fault. Some of the clones still have points ignition - if yours does I would start there.

Wife took it to a bike shop. They told her it's either the magneto, or something with fins on (I am not at home at the moment so cannot determine what thing with fins on Confused

What did you mean by clone?

Clone = copy of a popular brand, like CG copy etc.

it could be an ignition or electrical fault, chances are they haven't fixed it right as parts for this must be hard to come by.

Thanks for your replies. I want to strip the engine as the backfiring isn't the only problem the bike has. It has a helluva compression for a 125cc when trying to kickstart it with its awkward kickstarter. Also, I had the engine done by some bike shop who apparently did more shit than anything else, and closed down about three years ago. Bike has never been the same after they had it. This thing is pissing me off big time and I don't give a shit if I screw up the whole engine, but strip is what I'm gonna do. I have overhauled a Yamaha XT350 on my own using the workshop manual, so that was easy enough, and the bike is still running smoothly after I did it, so I should be fine with this scooter too, only if I could just have a manual to start with.

Anyone know what the Kazuma Silver Fox 150cc engine is a clone of, so I can search for it instead?

I don't think it is Chinese or Japanese, perhaps Korean. Parts will probably need to be sourced from abroad.

I wonder if it was originally sold in this country or imported as a used bike.

If that were the case then it would always have suffered the symptoms, not developed them.

Thanks guys. iooi: Yes, that is the same one. Unfortunately I'm not at home now to have a pic of the engine itself, I'm on military deployment until November. I googled for the bike and got a lot of pics similar to that one, but none has any technical details of the bike. I even searched the engine number on google and it gave me no results. I will probably screw something up if I attempt to do it without a manual.

Yes the problem did develop gradually, and I am not at home to troubleshoot the problem, but a friend helped my wife with the scooter. He does not have a lot of technical experience though, and I am trying to troubleshoot it over the phone. If only I could find out which clone this scooter is of...

Here is a pic of the scooter:

Odd that nobody has ever seen a scooter like this before. Are there no such scooters overseas?

Looks like its a Kymco heroism clone so could well be a 4 stroke. Think I've got an new air filter somewhere for one if it is the same.

I like the front fairing, the styling is unique. Similar to the Knight Rider car with the amber strip across the front.

This scooter is priced quite cheaply in South Africa, at around R3000.00 second hand (approx. US$385).

It does have a beautiful look and has a pretty powerful pull. Heh I guess Knight Rider will be a bit jealous. I should perhaps teach the bike to talk. Maybe even build some LED's in there to simulate Knight Rider.

Nobody yet identified this clone? Kazuma does make quad bikes that is correct, but also two-wheelers. I even saw a Kazuma scrambler once, it was as ugly as hell.

My friend said he suspects the magneto to be at fault causing the scooter not to start. He said there was no spark at the plug end, and he tested the plug-wire and the coil was tested at the bike shop. They apparently also suspect the magneto. I don't agree, as the battery did charge right until the end, as I tested the battery charge at around 14-15v dc with a micrometer with engine running. Also, the head light illuminated all the time, and does not shine unless the engine runs. Hence my suspicion that the magneto is NOT the cause of the problem. The wife of course deflated the battery trying to start it, now everyone thinks the battery did not charge. Middle Finger

Thanks guys for your posts. I am keeping this post alive as long as possible as perhaps somebody might stumble across this post and know what dead ringer this bike is.

There is a lot of Honda Spacey design on it.

I will be back home in two weeks' time. Would it be advisable to dismantle the plastic covering the engine so I can see what engine it has?

first of all, take the spark plug out and see if it is sparking

start with the least expensive jobs. take a look at the plug and tell us what colour it is and if it is covered in black carbon deposits.

it could be just a case of relacing the HT lead and plug tbh
