Honda CBF125 European version launched at the Intermot Cologne 2008 motorcycle show.

It’s based on the Indian Honda CBF125 Stunner but has been converted to fuel injection to make it Euro 3 compliant.

It will be available from December 2008 but is classed as a 2009 model.
It will be available in the UK but price has not been announced but is expected to be around the price of the Honda CG125 (£2000).
It is unlikely to be around £2500 as one website suggested.
The Honda CBF125 will be launched at the NEC Motorcycle show in England in November.

I assume this Honda CBF125 replaces the Honda CG125 since the current Honda CG125 is Euro 2 only so can not be sold in 2009 in the UK.

Interesting that the press release says it is an OHC engine, yet the pics on one of the site show no sign if that.

Overhead Cam makes it like a CB125 not CG125.

The CBF bore and stroke is different to the CB and CG.

The dipstick is in a completely different place to the CG.

Foot rest is not mounted under engine (unlike CG).

The frame going to the back wheel between the chain is rectangular on the CBF compared to round on the CG.

So there are a few differences.

Forks and rear suspension are different sizes as well.

The front disc brake of the CBF125 says its 2-pod caliper.
What does that mean?
Is that 2 pistons?

The Honda CG125 is single piston.

Thats a very good compliment for a Honda CG125 replacement.

It means the insurance premiums will be lower since its less likely to be stolen.
Also the kind of person who rides more dangerously than others would not be seen dead on it, so again the insurance premium drops.

If you want to own a small bike in some parts of london and leave it on the steet all night, low insurance premiums are a real bonus.

Was amused that in one of the press bits it says something about its power being class leading for a naked 125cc bike. And yet it no longer is a naked bike.

I wonder if they found a legal loop hole that allows half faired bikes to be called naked.
Since the engine is still naked.

The torque output is impressive, the power output is not.

I just found a UK Honda Dealer selling the bike for £1700

The tyre sizes on the bike is very odd.
Both wheels are the same size and rim width as the CBR125 so alternative tyre sizes should be available.
The originals on the CBF125 are Continental ContiGo (and the size it claims in the press release) but yet Continental do not list the correct size (they must be a new size).

Difficult to know as there are few torque graphs around for 125s.

Quick check and for those who think a 4 stroke is torquier than a 2 stroke a 1988 Aprilia AF1 Sintesi made about 11.2Nm of torque (the CBF125s peak, which it manages at 6250rpm) at 4500~5000rpm, and while the CBF needs to be revved to 8000rpm to manage its peak 8.3kW the old 2 stroke managed to do that at only 6000~6500rpm.

Looks like an even uglier version of the CBR125.

Whole point of CG's is minimal expensive plastics to replace when you drop it.

According to my calculations when the bike is at 60 mph the engine is at 8000rpm (peak power) in 5th gear.

The UK and European version of the CBF125 has an exposed rear wheel chain.

The Indian version is fully enclosed chain.

Looks like the Indian fully enclosed chain housing would fit the UK and European version.

600 km / 1.61 = 373 miles
373 miles / 13 litres = 28.7 mpl
28.7 mpl * 4.54 = 130 mpg

Wonder if a 20 year old bike is Euro compliant though? My mate used to hate Vauxhalls with a passion. I asked him why and he kept harping on about the old Vivas being useless. I reminded him that comparing a 30+ year old car with a modern equivalent is hardly a valid argument, especially considering the advancements in technology since then.

I wonder how the figures for the new CBF125 stack up against the new Cagiva Mito?

I quite like the look of it. But i agree with what people say on here. the CG is supposed to be about cheap bike, cheap parts, peanuts motoring. and from the ofset, it doesn't look like its going to be a cheap bike, and it looks like parts wont be cheap either with all those things attached to it. on the CG one thing could brake, and you'd change just that one thing. but on that, 1 thing could brake, and you'd have to change three things.

The bike is made in India.
It costs £683 in India but thats without fuel injection.
So parts must be cheap.
If they are not cheap in the UK you could buy them from India.

Actually that gets me wondering about going on holiday their and riding a bike back to the UK.
Its been done many times before on Indian Enfields.
I think you can even get around the Euro 3 rules due to it being only one bike, not hundreds and is used not new.
But I am not totally sure about the exact rules.

I have been reading the owners reviews of the Indian version of the bike which is almost identical except for the carb instead of fuel injection.
The power and torque output is the same.
The fuel injection should give better fuel economy.
One person in India complained his fuel consumption was only 125mpg.
Several other people complained it only got 135mpg.
All the people above had brand new engines which were not run in.
Some people were claiming around 160 mpg.
Honda in India are claiming in test conditions they got 169 mpg.

So it looks good.
But have you noticed the uk petrol price in the last day or so.
94.9p a litre.
What was it a few weeks ago, over £1.10 a litre.
The crude oil price has more than halved since its peak.
