Moved into a Maisonette with Roxanne last Saturday. Only got back online today with Virgin Media. 10mb (well, up to 10mb) line, Basic TV channels and a phone line with X amount of Free off peak minutes (Which wont get used anyway) for £27pm. And they sent out a free Wireless router too. Didn't think it was too bad really.

When we first got in, I HAD to change all the light fixtures because they were old, and skanky, and dated. And they all had like 3 bulbs on each fixture. Complete waste of leccy really! Laughing

Anyway, Did okay on them all, apart from the stair well.
Took the upstairs one down, And it didnt have a "loop" wired into it like the rest. Confused
Anyway, Wired it up to the new light like the old one came apart.

And it didn't work. Switched the down stairs light switch to on. And the switch broke. Something must of broken inside it.

Anyway to cut a long story short. Ive replaced the downstairs switch. And both bulb holders. And now the lights work, But no properly.

I have dual switches up stairs AND downstairs.

https://www.maplin.co.uk/images/300/hl91y.jpg

And basically, I can get both lights to come on. But its like a bloody memory game flicking the switches about to get them to come on.
If one switch is "off" downstairs", The upstairs switch doesn't work at all. And vice versa. Its doing my head in!

I thought I was 100% sure it went back together how it came apart. But somebody suggested to me that the new switch might have been different to the old switch internally. I just swapped the wires across one by one so they "looked" the same. But they could be different so ive been told. Confused
Think I'll have to call the electrician tomorrow because I cant be arsed to spend another day trying to get them working. Laughing

Got a few pics of the place. I'm dead happy, So is my girlfriend! Its gonna work out expensive. We have been stressing all week setting up the Council tax, Water rates, TV License etc. But its all sorted now. Smile

We collected most of the stuff over time, before we moved in. So we almost had everything ready to move in with.

Just want to get a black/silver fireplace because the pine looks out of place. And also getting a Black glass computer desk.
Also got to get a black/grey/white rug, instead of the brown and cream one. Which is going in the bedroom as soon as its replaced.

Nice looking place! A nice shiny black and white new fireblade would go well in that living room.

You are a credit to the Ikea nesting instinct. Furniture, DIY, home improvement, and decorating are really not my thing.

When we moved into our place the walls were a nice nicotine yellow, as were all the lightswitches, and annoyingly, the main light cable that hangs down has some kind of yellow nicotine type residue on it. Left up to me, it would all still be like this.

The 'room' we sleep in, is just plasterboarded, mmm dust Razz .

My personal contribution to the decorating, has been installing two shelves, because the DVD rack was overspilling.

Your wallpaper makes me want to hurt things.

Looks nice that binge. Was the stuff already there when you moved in or you bought all the stuff yourself ?

Laughing You probably messed up with the switch wires on the lights. A guy at work who use to do the odd job for people he knew said it happened at lot on two way lighting.

Whats a maisonette Laughing ? sounds a bit posh

Maisonette = half a house.

Upstairs or downstairs.

Good thing is, Our Maisonette is actually completely separate to the downstairs Maisonette. Dont share a front door or anything. Their front door is round the side of the house.

The place was almost empty. We have added everything. Wall paper and wood lamo flooring was in. Thats it really. Furniture wise, everything is stuff we have bought. Cost a f**king fortune!

Thanks to my Dad, I got the Surround sound and TV stand. He bought it for my 21st. Samsung 5.1 Surround sound with the Bluetooth audio etc. And the Glass cabinate. Looks tech with my Samsung Tele.

Would show you pictures of the bedroom but it's not alot to boast about yet. Just a bed! Laughing

Um no, a flat is half a house.

A maisonette is a flat on more than one level so if you have a masonette you still have an upstairs and a downstairs but there is something else further either up or downstairs!

Hang on a sec, I'll be back in a tick with a paint drawing........

You are probably talking about something like this babyyam.

This place is classed as a maisonette. Probably because it has a Loft.

Just looking on ebay at Computer desks. Everything I like the look of is like £170. Shocked

Unfortunately there is no garden. Just a small shed built into the front of the house beside the front door. Not big enough for a bike though.

Wont be here for more than 18 months/2 years I don't think. And it is only 5 minutes drive from my Mam and Dad's house, Where there is a nice big double garage.

When I get another proper bike, It will just live there. The pit bike is here purely for practical reasons. Roxanne passed her driving test and is now using my Golf. So I use the Pit bike to get around when she needs the car.

I only ever took the CBR out if I was planing to go out. It didn't go out in the rain etc. So any other bike bike would be treat the same. So no hassle leaving it at me Dad's.

I work in a garage 45 hours a week, So have little interest in mechanics when I come home. Although my own garage would be handy. But next time I/We move, it will be into a big(er) place. And ideally a proper house. 2 or 3 bedroom, WITH a garden and garage. But were not planning on buying anywhere like that until the Credit crunch shit has sorted its self out. A mate of mine bought a property for £127k. Moved in, And had it re-valued at £122k less than 6 month after he bought the place!

Yeah living with a girl is well gay....

Being serious though living with a good mate is a right laugh and I'd reccomend it! Just for stupid stuff like coming home to find a scene only a sex pest could create on your bed, good times.

Been there done that with the Mate thing. Rented a flat with a Work mate for a year. Was a great laugh. Just moving in with my girlfriend seemed more practical.

Plus, She's already brought up the idea of inviting one of her female friends over for the night. I kid you not! Thumbs Up

I have a light switch problem. You can control the landing light with two switchs. One downstairs in the sitting room and one upstairs on the landing. One wont work if the others switched on and one wont work if the others switched off. Or something like that. Also i changed a light switch front for a plug socket front(dont ask me how) and nearly blew the kitchen up. Very Happy

Great with electrics me, you don't want to know what happened with the shower. Thumbs Down

Haha, should be happening for me about March time, soon find out, although if I'm set on something she will have to like it. Laughing

The stair well had 2 switch panels. Each has 2 switches inside.
So in total there are 4 switches.

All 4 switches are 3 way switches.

Definition of a maisonette is a contentious issue! Have debated it many times with the missus when we were searching for a place. We came to the conclusion, after talking to many agents, that a maisonette is any property which is part of a larger building, but has its own entrance from street level. So you can have a single level, ground floor maisonette, as long as it has an exclusive access from he street.

Did you buy that place, or are you renting? The size of the wad of money suggests that was your deposit and month's rent in advance. It is shocking how much that costs - almost as much as deposit on a place!
