Conking out and fouling plugs

Hi all,

Having some major probs with my RSX100. Was on the way home today and it became non-responsive to throttle and then lost power and died. I have got through a number of plugs, and with a new plug in it works fine for a day or so until the same thing happens, and the plug comes out wet and useless.

When it does start its idles around 2000rpm then dies.

I don't know the bike, however the things I would check would be:

Oil mixture, if it has an injector for it make sure its set right and that it isn't allowing too much in.
Fueling is set to rich.
Air filter blocked up,

When i set off before this happened I stupidly didn't give it time to warm up.

As it is a 2 stroke, could not leaving the engine to warm up foul the plugs at all?

When the bike is warmed up it runs great, but always acts dodgy when cold.

With a choke on it won't run right, just make sure you turn the choke off as soon as you can.

As for riding off when its cold, it wont feel right as it simply is cold, tight and not up to operating temperature, just don't thrash it when its cold.

If it is thrashed when cold what would it do to it?

I opened up the throtlle a little then the problem with the plug happened. Could this have been caused by running it like that from cold?

sounds like it is running rich and when you open the throttle your flooding it. when it gets warm its burning fuel correctly because its at its optimal temperature. check what hex said and maybe the float level.

I would agree with Hex. Sounds like it is running rich.

Thrashing it from cold will not wreck the plugs. In fact it would probably help the plugs. However it will also shorten engine life, and on some bikes is likely to provoke a cold seizure.

Leaving the choke on for too long will wreck the plugs.

Personally I would say get all your gear on, start the bike and ride off immedialty, as soon as it will run safely, then knock the choke off as soon as you can.

Also check that you are using the right grade of spark plug.
