Hi guys,

Thinking about getting a bike and after abit of advice, i haven't ridden anything more than a moped before, i'm 25, slim and 6ft 3", i adore the nc30 400 from a looks point of view and wondered if anyone would know if i could realistically get comfortable on it at my height? I'm also looking at rs250's, same question again on this one..

Plus do you feel the above two bikes would suit first riders?

Cheers!

Laughing yea i have to say i am slightly concerned about that! i'm guessing the Aprilia is abit smaller than the nc30? Looking at CBR 400s they do look abit bigger, but nowhere as good to look at as the nc30! Sad

I'm 6ft and the NC30 was good for short/medium distances. A mate is 6,5 'large' and rides one Laughing

The rs is more crampt and will not thank you for any extra weight.

I hear the 600 argument but this would be my first bike afterall, i think a 400 would be the most i should ride bearing in mind my ability, i want to progress in a sensible manner and am sure a 400 would scare the hell out of me initially!

Lol! I'm sure (i hope) you don't look like an elephant fella, but i get your point! Wink i'm 12ish stone so its just my height i'm worried about really.

frosty thanks for that, good to know at 6ft you found it semi comfortable.. still some hope! Razz i just can't find another 400 that looks as good! (in my opinion obviously!)

You planning on doing DAS or A2?

Because if you get a 600 then restrict it to 33bhp it won't be as fast as a 400 due to the extra weight.

Another thing to bare in mind about 400s is that they are old, so in worse condition, and are generally higher on insurance than 600s because so many new bikers buy them and bin them. Also you may well get bored of it pretty fast, you never know.

I'm going to do the DAS, which from what i can understand at my age (25) whill entitle me to ride de-restricted?

I see your point, it's not just the 400 thing though, i've always loved the nc30 so theres an emotional attachment too. I could look at 600s but where do you stop, i spoke to a friend about this who said if your going to get a 600 make sure its injection, and then if you do that, might aswell get 750 and so on!

Providing i can fit on a nc30 then i'm happy with that Very Happy

I have to say i'm suprised looking at the costs though, back in the days when i did my driving test i think it cost me about £350 for 20 lessons/theory/test. I'm looking at £700 plus my theory for this!

if you would be unsafe/crazy on a 600 then having a 400 will make no difference. they are both more than capable of doing 0-tree in a matter of seconds. If your not sensible enough to have a 600 then maybe a 400 isnt suitable either.

Wouldn't agree with that. Most of the 400s kicking around are pretty old and remarkably heavy, a 2000s 600 could easily weigh less than a 90s 400.

Most modern 600's are lighter than old 400's.

Get a 6 not a 4 aside from most of them being knackered and way overpriced you will not find them comfy they are cripplingly small. I'm 6'5" and make a 400 look like a minimoto.

I'm 6 2". I ride an Nc30 every day, to work, for pleasure, for random rides or anything. Stock suspension (so nothing messed about with) and stock rearsets. I feel comfortable. I'm slim as well. Thumbs Up

Don't bother with all the haters. NC30 is a great bike. Oh and if you do, get Bridgestone 090's. Quite possibly the best tyre I've ever had easily. Peg grindingly fun on the roads. Wink

Not always true... Hornet costs more to insure than the VFR... (in my case using same companies)

Also Chris... you make any bike look like a mini moto!

For some reason I make a CBR6 look tiny... but make the VFR seem normal?

Also my first bike (at 18) was a Hornet 600 which is slightly faster than an NC30 (in acceleration anyways) and it also power wheelies in first unlike the vfr. It doesn't matter what bike you get. whether it's a turbo'd 'busa with 500bhp or a 50cc moped if you're an idiot then chances are you will crash. Be sensible, respect the bike, the ride, and most importantly the tyres and you will find biking heaven.

You haven't seen me on the TDM, it almost looks like a real sized bike.

Here's me making a bike look little.

You will get a better bike for you money if you go for a 600.

400s hold their value even if they are old and knackered

the less popular 600s are excellent value such as tt600 or thundercat

you will get a newer, lower mileage bike for the same money that you would have spent on a 600

Agree with the above, you will get a lot more for your money with a 600 and have more room, but do ring around for insurance first though as some may be a lot cheaper than others.

Saying that though I am 6'5" and had an NC30 for 4 years, I never noticed it being too small, if anything it actually made it more fun to ride as you can really just chuck it into corners. I only felt uncomfortable after my knee reconstruction, even then it was over an hour on the bike that made it feel bad.

I guess it's down to you really, what can you afford to run and insure and what do you want most out of your bike.

Cheers Jay! Your abit taller than me so thats good.

I've had a look a GSXR 600 SRAD's as well which are about the same money, they seem to be a much bigger bigger so no doubt more comfy. Does anyone know how these handle compared to nc30's? i've read lots about how chuckable nc30s are but very little about the gsxr.

A 600 won't corner like a 400, but it that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

600s are still plenty nimble if you get the right ones, and have alot more pace to offer coming out of the corner.
