One of my cats just brought in a new born baby mouse. It was tiny and had a huge wound on it's tummy. There is a huge field where find them so there is no chance of finding it's mother.

I could wring the cat's neck.

The poor bugger was still just breathing but obviously had little chance. I thought it best to put him out of his misery.

I feel sick.

Ah bless, you're braver than me
Sick its horrible innit Sick

Mingles brought down a pigeon a couple of weeks, and he gored its back, probably broke a wing, and hurt it so that it couldnt get away. It shuffled around inside our front garden all day, Mingles and Dogmella kept going out there and pestering it, but it was scrunched up in the corner behind the wall for hours, where they couldnt get it to finish it off.

We knew we should put it out of its misery but we couldn't bring ourselves to, and kept hoping the cats would get out there and finish it off.

Eventually we got hold of it and grabbed it to put it back on the street and it waddled off ... hopefully it got better.
But I couldnt bring myself to kill it Sad

Hi

One of ours regularly brings things in. Brought in 3 mice in the space of about an hour last week. She is only a little cat and brought in a fairly large rabbit a couple of months back.

Might have to get a bell for her collar. Either a noisy one or a church bell so she cannot run quickly.

All the best

Keith

She tries to claw her way through the glass Confused She is 9 and should really cop on that her claws are not that good. Then roams about mowing to annoy everyone and doing a round of every window in the house and door, bit like a security cat.

Pussies. I shoot them off the ariel and give them to Hetzer. About a week ago I winged one and it was still alive, with plenty of kick. He especially enjoyed that one. Twisted Evil

It's not gratuitous, he needs the vitamins and stuff that can be found only in the brains and organs (try finding that stuff in retail off-the-shelf produce).

And they sh!t all over my car, so they deserve it anyway.

That is what cats do, it is their raison d'etre. They are bringing you a present. Whilst you may not like it, like some bad socks from a distant relative, you need to be gracious when accepting it.

Our cat is currently preying on the local lizard population, what can I do, he is merely carring out his instincts, he is not being malicious.

Perhaps you should not be a cat owner if it affects you so much.

Laughing Anita was very grossed out when I explained to her that she had to tell Dogmella thank you and make a fuss of her for bringing us the gift of a live worm into the living room the other day Laughing

Yes. If you can't deal with dead and injured wild animals in your house on a regular basis, cats are not the pet for you.

First time I went to break a mouses neck after the cat brought him in I gave it a good twist, right through 360 degrees, and as I was holding it in my hand it's head flopped sideways and it gave me a big squeak Shocked so yeah, if you go to break their neck make sure you pull as well, cos that freaked me the fuck out.

Though after killing hundreds, if not thousands of mice over summer with a big vacuum cleaner I really dont care about doing it any more. I'm desensitised to mouse deaths, like a hitman, but with mice.

I'm willing to bet they have and you just never saw them. I reckon they must kill and eat about half a dozen small mammals for every one you see.

With regard to euthanasia of mice. I find a coal shovel applied in a firm downward movement, rapid and about as humane as you'll get.

I watch them mostly when they are out as they dont go very far, infact one os always waiting to get back in again on the dorr step. The other one wont leave the house for she has panic attacks in the open world but the other is more than happy to chase after big things she cannot possibly get ie cats and dogs. She just chatters at the birds.

I have mice in the attic she still hasnt got! she gave up. To be fair though they are in places that are hard to get to.

Not 'off topic', Drew, as it clearly relates to HK not being able to kill the injured pigeon, yet claiming to be more hardcore than Hetzer. Who, btw, joined in and explained how it's done.

Some years ago my my cat colin bought in a young rabbit, said rabit was injured quite badly and bleeding profusely.

My middle brother removed the rabbit from colins mouth and decided that it was best to put it out of its misery by breaking its neck ( the rabbit not the cat )
Now bearing in mind he has never done this before, Joe held the rabbits head in one hand and its body in the other and in a quick twisting/pulling motion dispatched the rabbit to a carrot filled heaven.

The trouble was he yanked the rabbit so hard it pulled its head off squirting blood up my brothers t-shirt. It wasnt a pretty sight!
