Hi

Ages ago the BBC had a piece on speed cameras which showed a couple of people crashing having spotted the camera. Once they realised this showed cameras in a bad light rather than drivers the video disappeared from their web site, and they claimed not to know where it was. And Norfolk speed camera partnership claimed to have no idea where the film came from, despite various requests.

Well the film has now turned up.

https://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=xJLlH6GgmfU&feature=email

Crashes are at about 2 minutes. Also got the video of what some have claimed to be a police rider at ~120mph (doesn't look like he is doing anything like that speed despite what the camera says).

And A short cartoon about it.

All the best

Keith

lol typical the biker gets caught doing 137mph, average speed cameras are the worst, cagers sit there glued to the speedo trying to sit at 70mph all day long and don't look ahead or behind them.

Look and see. Do you really think he is doing 137mph? When the stills of that bike were shown off many said that it looked like an unmarked police bike (with the rider wearing a hi vis jacket), and that the shot (and the speed that goes with it) were fiddled just to justify the use of cameras.

All the best

Yeah there is no way that bike was doing a genuine 137mph. You can tell by the rate it passes the dashed lines that it is travelling only marginally above the speed of the red car.

Surely one would have thought that the logical thing to do to reduce road deaths would be to investigate the reasons behind the other 67%. Confused

Nearer the other 97%. Only a tiny number of accidents are caused by excessive speed, and only a small number of those are caused by excessive speed over the speed limit.

The old 1/3 of accidents are caused by speeding lie is based on misquoting that 1/3 of accidents are speed related (which would include accidents caused by people going too slowly). Accidents that were counted as speed related for that included any from overtaking and any where someone misjudged anothers speed.

All the best

Seeing as he only dabbed the brakes and seem to be going pretty slow no way was is over 100, and doesn't it say "error" on the display when it shows the speed Question

Laughable

I have done a little analysis of the biker clip in the video.
I counted the number of video frames that the biker takes to travel between the two arrows, which was approximately 31 (approx because it's hard to tell exactly!)
I made an assumption of 25fps for the video, as I do not know exactly what it is.
From there it was simple to estimate how far he would have travelled in that time if he was doing 137mph - 76 metres.

Those arrows don't look 76 metres apart to me. Cool

I did read somewhere that it was closer to about 13% of accidents are caused by excessive speed, can't remember where though.

Depends whose figures you believe, and how you manipulate them.

The old lie of 1/3 of accidents are speed related was claimed to be supported by a report by the Transport Research Laboratory. They got to this figure by adding up all the factors they claimed were speed related:-

Failure to judge other persons path or speed 10.7%
Excessive speed 7.3%
Following too close 4.1%
Slippery road 3.0%
Behaviour — in a hurry 2.7%
Aggressive driving 1.4%
Weather (eg mist or sleet) 0.8%
Other (Local conditions) 0.4%

So excessive speed was only responsible for 7.3%, which makes it not even the biggest speed related factor. And excessive speed can still be under the speed limit, so not even 7.3% are from speeding.

All the best

Keith, as you can wipe the floor with anyone who dares test your knowledge, have you ever considered taking the government to court on the basis of, I dunno, manipulation of evidence or something?

Ooo, or discrimination against Bikers - I mean, they lick muslims arse when they complain about not being able to wear a bracelet to school, so surely we should all get brand new r1's?

Why before a speed is shown for the biker does "Error D3" appear on each occasion?

730.6 m @ time 2:19 - 137 mph?
380.1 m @ time 2:26 - 110 mph?
= 350.5 M in 7 sec = ~50 Meters a sec =
~111mph average speed between those two points.
