Hi all,

I have a netgear router, which has one computer attatched by cable, and 2 laptops connected wirelessly. This was fine, until my sister tried to use another computer with a usb dongleything.

Now for some reason, my laptop and that computer won't connect at the same time, it kicks one of us off, and says there is an 'IP conflict'

How can I resolve this

Check the IP address of each machine.
Under control panel, network.
Highlighyt your connection and right click properties.
Select the TCP/IP and right click properties.
Make sure the numbers are unique for each machine

should be something like 192.168.0.x and 192.168.0.y where x and y are different.

Go to 'Control Panel', 'Network Connections', right click on the network adapter and click 'Properties'. Scroll down to 'Internet Protocol TCP/IP' and ensure it is set to 'Obtain an IP address automatically'.

This SHOULD fix it, unless your router doesn't give out automatic IP's.

Or the laptop needed to have a fixed IP for some reason.

Go find you sister slap her round the back of the head for fucking up your computers then run up and down the stairs shouting and screaming while slamming doors.

This will not help to fix them but is a normal way of dealing with siblings.

Unfortunatley her autism probably won't deal with that so well.

I've already complained bitterly and accidently changed the wep code to give me some more time to fix it Smile

So shouting and screaming, running up and down the stairs and slamming doors will probably happen sooner or later then.

Chances are very slim that a) someone would have set a static ip on a home laptop (unless either they're trying to learn how computerynetworkry stuff works or on a secure network with no dhcp server) so i'd rate it as pretty unlikely that there's a static ip on her laptop - I presume you've tried just restarting the netgear, waiting a minute then restarting your laptop? if not, do it, will clear the dhcp leases database on the netgear, once you've done that go into the wireless web interface and look under attached devices and see what devices have what ip addresses.

If that fails then go onto each laptop click start, run, cmd then in the box type ipconfig /all and post the output up here/pm me it. (nothing security wise will be in it anyway as your home internet will be NAT'd so they'll be internal ip's anyway.

Thanks all, turns out what had happened when I already tried to set it to request ip and dns, my sister had unplugged the dongle thing, so it wasn't connected therefore not changing it in the right state sorta thing.

Much shouting later I discovered the problem.
