Surprised this hasn't been mentioned on here already!

Ok, what they did was uncalled for and it's understandable that the old guy is upset but it's been so blown out of proportion it's unreal.

So they pre-record the show, it wasn't live, Brand says they're about to call him and the elephant in the room is he doesn't that he's slept with his grand daughter. They get the answering machine, Brand starts leaving a message when suddenly Ross shouts out that Brand shagged his grand daughter. Two more phone messages are left, one with brand improvising a song whilst Ross is shouting he had her over the couch.

This footage is passed to execs who give it the ok, it gets played, they get 2 complaints, not about the calls but about Brand swearing.

The media gets hold of it and suddenly there's 10,000 complaints and the media are jumping all over Brand and demanding they both be fired. It Seems the media aren't being as harsh towards Ross (the spacker mouthed tool) as they are to Brand, which is odd considering it all started when he shouted out Russell had shagged his grand daughter.

This isn't front page news, surely?

It plays out to the minds of the morons who arent quite getting their fix from eastenders and coronation street anymore. The press know this, and thus it will sell papers and make them money, they sit back and laugh at the idiots buying such tosh whilst, I imagine, reading broad sheet.

It's just a case of everyone jumping on the bandwagon. Sad really.

What I want to know is what Gordon Brown / the Labour party signed/did/agreed to yesterday that justified spinning up such a dense smokescreen.

No way is that an issue that warrants parliamentary discussion so what have they been up to that they know we wont like?

I don't agree. I think it's a waste of the license fee, which I pay. Therefore I'm a customer. What was Ross' contract worth, 20 million pounds? Andrew Sachs was a comic genius and it's disrespectful of these two pillocks to treat him like this. And those in the higher offices in the BBC should remember his contributions to the BBC.

They've just been suspended apparently
I'm sure there are more important things for people to worry about.
Let them apologise and move on i say

Its quite clear that is a useful tool for the government to find a way of distracting the sheeple with short concentration spans away from the financial disaster/s of the last few months.

Both parties have more than enough other things going on/general infamy, anyway, that its hardly going to affect them in the long term. If Kate Moss can get decent paying jobs back, after her so-called downfall, then that pair of spazzes won't have too much trouble. Fame is too much of an asset these days to these sort of people. They don't like to let go of it easily.

All comedians should be put to death at 35, before they get too old and start making twonks of themselves: "You're not funny any more! Go away and die quietly!"

At least "Manuel" had the decency not to try and continue to be funny into his dotage.

I can't believe I used the word "Sheeple" ... Rolling Eyes

I swore many years ago that I would never use that word.
Bum.

Frustratingly, its increasingly obvious that that is EXACTLY what a lot of people are these days.

Mr. Green no surprise there then Mr. Green

Alright, I'll make an exception in your case, but only because ... well, you know.

Actually, the little fucker bit me, and said "If you don't spare Shaun, I shall pooh on your duvet again".

I don't see the issue, I have more of a problem with the celebrity get me out of here on ice while ballroom dancing type shit they keep peddling.

Frankly, this is nothing to do with a genuine complaint (of which there were 2) but with jealousy. They get paid a ton of money so are automatically a target for other people's envy.

I once worked out the portion of my TV license that went to Jonathon Ross, as I recall it was less than 0.6% It wasn't even pennies. As for either of them being suspended, obviously enough people watch/listen to them to justify their wage, those who are advocating they be sacked actually have no mandate for doing so.

I quite like JW (not so keen on Brand though.) Now, I never watch celebrity xfactor in the jungle bug dancing on ice or Eastenders, but I don't think any of it should be banned as I understand other license fee payers do like it.

That's kinda how things work is it not?

Thumbs Up

Thing is, I don't see these two bellends doing the great british (lower case on purpose) public a service. They're not adding anything to the quality of broadcasts and frankly the money, no matter how small a portion, would be better spent on something more productive. What, I couldn't say. The BBC delivered well with such recent greats as QI and Mitchell and Webb, as well as countless other 'good' programming decisions (that African rainforest adventure thing for one, but I forget the name right now).

Whole thing has been blown way out of proportion. That said, Andrew Sachs is an awesome guy and doesn't deserve to be hounded like this for cheap comedy.

I've always liked Ross, but I have an irrational hatred of Brand. Don't know why; I think he just represents almost every aspect of 'comedy' that I find unfunny.

They don't deserve to lose their jobs over this, but saying that they don't deserve to be paid the rediculous amounts they recieve anyway. That's the media for you though!

Apparantly Brand did fuck his granddaughter.

I wonder what Andrew Sachs thinks about this picture from her MySpace page?

20,000 sad fscks have now complained about this pissy little issue. That's probably more than listened to the original broadcast. Why the fscking hell cant the people of this country grow a thicker skin, there's far more issues at large that require people to get off their arse and DO SUMMAT rather than complain about this.

I wonder how many of the people who complained were actually listening to the show at the time. Bet it's less than half Rolling Eyes

I seethed from the fact that this got 15+ minutes air time on the news last night. My girlfriend ended up telling me to calm down as I was ranting about how there are more important things going on in the world and everyones focussed around this shit. What the fuck is Gordon Brown chipping in for? What the fuck has this got to do with politics?

War in Iraq - pah
Economic crisis - pffft
Zimbabwe situation - yawn
Oil running out rapidly - zzzzzzzz

RB & JR do some crap that no one knows about until a paper reports it a week later and only 2 people originally complained - WHAT WHAT WHAT!!>?!?!?!?! OUTRAGE! OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!!! BRING BACK THE GUILLOTINE! WE NEED TO CALL A MEETING AT DOWINING STREET, THIS CANNOT GO ON!!! OMGZ OMGZ!! 1111 ONE ONE ONE ONE!!!111ZZZZ11

Sure, the license payer is funding this, but BELIEVE me there is much more shite on the BBC that most really shouldnt be happy paying for. I honestly think this is a very sad reflection on todays society when a non-event like this causes such hysteria.

You miss my point I think.

My contention is that we all pay our TV license but all have different tastes. You think JW is a bellend, I think he's quite entertaining. Why should I not be entertained because you think he's a bellend.

I love QI but think MItchell and Webb are a pair of twats (although David Mitchell on Mock the Week and Would I Lie to You is really funny. I would never say they (as a comedy duo) shouldn't be on the telly becuase they are crap.

I would agree entirely with ghostrider. This could very well sound the starting gun of the terminal decline of the BBC, what really annoys me is that my listening/veiwing habits can be dictated to me by a shower of prudish, uptight and repressed daily mail/express readers.
