I read somewhere in one of those brainy science/IT magazines that someone (Google, maybe) are attempting to develop a search engine that works on pictures.

But when the picture is in your head, you can't transfer it to the screen and tell Google to search for it ANYWAY Neutral

I'd go with body warmer as it's a more outdoorsey name - see google for pics.
I remember having a Mountain Equipment one that was well padded and could stand up on its own. I see they just call them vests though Confused

Gilet is also acceptable although I've always associated that with being thinner and liked by the horsey set - google pics (nothing wrong with the horsey set - firm thighs and all that Wink)

Thumbs Up

I can't believe that you're living in the town that (amongst other things) purports to be the cultural and fashion capital of the county and you don't know what a fockin' body warmer is Shocked Wink

Funny you should say that, as I suggested it, and I am actually one of those 'horsey people'. Laughing

I think you'll find I am the premier horsey person.

Haven't heard the word gilet in ages, (a great crossword word I suspect.) I would favour bodywarmer though, they are somewhat out of fashion though are they not? A wee bit Back To The Future maybe...

Wink

Locally*, they are also known as PVTs, or "Pockety Vest Things".

I'd stick with Anorak, especially as you'll look like one.

Wierd, I wasted an hour two weeks ago goggling "gillet" with the double L because I wanted a thin body warmer thing to go under my leather jacket.

Ended up buying a ex army field jacket liner, best bit of kit for ages. £10.
