I have a bit of an obsession with primes, if i am putting a bike on the track I always request a prime starting number.
My latest prime phobia is chillies, I only add a prime number to meals, my veggie stir fry has 23 bird chillies and 11 red chillies in it.
Sad I know.

Maths teacher, years ago told us that the US military buys prime numbers.

Really big ones mind, dunno if it's true, or what they do with them.

Sorry, thats the only banter I can come up with for prime numbers.

Isn't it something like a reward of $1,000,000 if you can find a sequence for prime numbers.

they do indeed, they just paid $500 000 out for a prime with 12000000+ digits. That would look crap on the front of my bike though. Very Happy

Primes are used in cryptology - or code writing for us normal people. Apparently it is beacuse they are hard to 'guess' by code breakers, which rely on progression of sequence - a prime cannot be formed by any other combination of numbers, and therefore you just have to happen upon it by luck.

Or at least that's what I gleaned from the book I have just - 'Digital Fortress' by Dan Brown. Not a bad read in the end.

0 is not a prime.
1 is not classed as a prime.
2 is the only even prime.

I like emirp numbers, a prime that if it is reversed is still prime...
13.....31
37......73
17.....71

I was watching a program on infinity.
There are a few types of infinity, whole number , fraction and decimal infinity amongst a few.
So in theory if you start at 1 and used a franction infinty you would never get to 2. Who needs drugs to fuck with your head?

Sad I know.

There is a flaw in your cunning prime number cooking plan because you are actually adding 34 chillies and as we all know 34 is not a prime number. I think you need to find a third type of chilli to add Thumbs Up

A good point. If I add three green chillies it will give me a total of 37.
37 is a good number as both of its integers are also prime and is classed as a "Lucky Prime".
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucky_number

That gives us...
11 red chillis
23 bird chillis
3 green chillis
3 types of chilli
37 chillis in total.
Excellent!

I've always liked 13 because the superstitious think it's unlucky. I just asked my wife (a maths teacher) what her favourite prime number is and she also said 13, for exactly the same reason.

Too alike sometimes... Neutral

I always found 101 a handy prime. 111 works just as well, if you're being lazy and not too picky about the definition of prime.

360 is my all time fave number.

Your definition of prime is indeed loose, 3X37=111!
111 is a very interesting number though.....

I have to say that the number 111 fascinates me. It seems to follow me a lot, that or i am just generally aware of it more than other numbers. But for example; if i check the time it'll be 1:11. If i randomly for no reason check to see if i have any texts, it'll be 1:11.
Then theres turning around for no reason and the number 111 bus is coming along the road. Going to a friends house and the number being 111. But i see the number 111 a few times a day and its not just the with the time either. It's rather weird. Anyone else have something like this?
