i have a puegeot speed fight 2, 2 year old, 10500 miles on clock,

recently i have had new piston and piston rings put in,
the bike was running fine i did the 500 miles they shop said it needs to get run in and the other day i was riding and the moped slowly slowed down,

when i was reving nothing was hapeening but the engine was still on,

then after a while it will start to move very slowly again, then die again, the engine is on all the time though,

but just wont rev, i have found something on the internet something the same to my problem, i have done all the thing that people have said and i still cant get it to go for no longer than 5 minutes,

i have checked the fuel pump, c.d.i unit, spark, battery and everything is connected, today i took apart my carbarator and cleaned it like a website says the problem is and put it all back together went to go around my street and the same problem happened again,

my dad id rather good on bike been messing with them for long enought and he cant think what the problem is.

anybody heard of this before ?
anyhelp pleaseeee

thanks chris.

When you say "you're revving but nothing is happening", do you mean the engine revs up but it just won't move?

If so I'd say either clutch or drivebelt has gone. Take the cover off the side of the swingarm and have a look, if you find strands of kevlar everywhere then that's the problem. Otherwise the springs may have gone in the clutch, causing it to slip and eventually burn out.

Both relatively cheap to fix if you DIY it.

nope i go to rev the moped and it dosent do anything,

if i put on full revs sounds like its flooding, moped sounds like its going to die and then i let go of the revs and it slowly starts ticking over again but still dosent move.

are you sure the exhaust is not blocked? there will be a lot of white/blue smoke out of the exhaust when that happens.
basically when you try and rev it, it will sound like the engine is really flooded and the exhaust note will be quiet, chucking out a fair amount of smoke.

Sure your choke isnt stuck on slightly ?
There automatic on most peds.
Try and find a litte black sensor box near or on your carb and disconect it . . try that.
My old ped did something very ! simular.

Good luck

Have you checked it has oil and that it is feeding into the carb correctly?

Sounds like it may be partially seizing up :/

As said, I'd check it has oil.

its that description that makes me think its the exhaust or exhaust port blocked. (partly blocked)
enough for low revs to get out but struggles to pass at higher revs.

Very easy to check for a blocked exhaust on a Speedfight. If you follow the exhaust down from the tip, as you reach the belly pan you will see a small pipe and a clip on it, slide the clip off and pull the pipe off. Now test your scooter out to see i the problem is still there.

When you do this your scooter will be loud as you are bypassing the silencer.

Could be that the CAT has fallen out, it happens a lot on Speedfights and you can cut the exhaust open, pull the cat out and weld them back up.

Yep, how else would a 2 stroke pass emissions in this day and age.

They just fall out and block up the exhaust exit.

Even when you have opened the exhaust and removed them the problem can re-occur. On the snake bite exhausts bits of broken off CAT get lodged in the silencer and you have to take it out and poke the bits of CAT out.

As I said further up, take the pipe off and it will determine if the exhaust is blocked. Then take the exhaust off and shake it, if you can hear rattling the CAT has fallen out and the exhaust will need opening up and the CAT removing.

EDIT:

To the OP, does your scooter have an exhaust like on this Speedfight?

I'm amazed at this talk about cats on scooters. All my enginnering knowledge is based on cars but these things cost £500-£800 a time. How the hell do they work on an exhaust costing about £200?

Even more interesting is how you control emissions on a 2 stroke!!

I think a Peugeot exhuast with a CAT in is about £350. That's why when you buy a second hand Peugeot exhaust they sell you one for £150 that doesn't have one in.

In this exact part of the forum someone told me the other day that bikes don't have emissions tests.

Or is the cat just there for the purposes of obtaining type approval?

I have never had a bike tested for emissions in 20 odd years. The problem is that a new bike still needs approval. In the good old days it was just a matter of playing with the tuning or timing. I guess now its a matter of filtering out as much crap as possible.

They don't get emissions tested on M.O.Ts but they do when they are first produced and that is why they need all this crap to get them to pass.

2 stroke scooters fool the emissions by having a pipe that sucks air into the exhaust which dilutes the bad stuff with good stuff and it comes out the exhaust tip cleaner. Stupid really as it's still just as bad for the environment.

You say you have a race pipe, what main jet do you have in your carb?

It should be a 72. If it's lower it's running lean. This could be causing it to overheat.

But has the bike always played up like this since youve had it...
if not then its not going to be a jetting issue.

by the way reving the tits off a newly rebuilt ped isnt going to make the piston or rings last peticularlly long..

There may be something wrong if it's only just started doing this after a rebuild.
