do moped's have air filters?, they all should have one, but i cant seem to find mine. i checked under the bike about 20 min and i cant find it. i watched this guy changing his oil and he didnt change his oil filter on youtube so there aint oil filters on scooters ?.

a 2 stroke does not have an oil filter.
look to see where the tube goes from the back of your carb and thats the air box

Some scooters/mopeds just have the gauze on top of the sump plug (oil drain bolt). You can just clean any filth off that and replace. When you remove the sump plug you should really replace the copper/aluminium washer but it's not too bad if you don't.

EDIT: Edited to remove 'jsut' and 'teh'. My fingers must have been swollen.

As said above - some scoots do not run oil filters, some do. On some the oil filter is a gauze mesh behind a separate, larger sump plug. Silly design, but kawasaki had a similar thing on the GPz550, just with a paper oil filter.

Everything runs an air filter, will be in the air box. The air box is the plastic box connected to the back of the carb.

However, it is a scooter, so someone may have removed it to try to make it go faster. It will not make your scooter faster, in the long run it will make it go slower, then stop.

Honda C50s, C70c and C90s have a centrifugal oil filter incorporated into the clutch housing. These are REALLY effective and are probably one of the reasons why they are so reliable.

The oil goes through the middle of the clutch shaft, into the basket and is flung to the outside of the basket by its rotation. Any heavy particles are forced to the outside, get lodged in a series of notches built into the clutch casting and stay there.

You are supposed to take the engine cover off and scrape the crap out of the notches with an old screwdriver once in a blue moon.

them old fiat 500's/600's had them centrifugal 'filters' behind the crank pulley. suprising how well they do work, its just that a cartridge filter is always easier to change.

if you dont have a copper wash or forgot to buy,heat it up wi a blowtorch or on cooker until it glowing the dump it in water makes it go back soft like brand new

Most 4 stroke scoots have an oil filter , some will be a canister type (newer gilera's etc) but most will have a paper type, usualy on the left side of the engine under a cover (at the front just above the belt case).

Double check for a filter as most scoots take so little engine oil(generaly not more than 1L) any restriction in the oil filter would be damaging.

The paper filters are usualy only a couple of quid and the canister type isn't realy expensive either, once you find your oil filter and determined what filter you need for a replacement buy a few so that your not back and forward to the bike shop when you oil change your scoot, most people recomend oil change every 1000-1500 miles it sounds alot but considering the small oil capacity you have its worth it for reliability,

A gallon of car oil is cheap enough and its safe enough to use in a scoot because there is no wet clutch to worry about (car oil will probably be a better grade than bike stuff anyway) and you should get four to five oil changes out of it, so your probably getting through a gallon of oil as quick as an average car (4-5k miles).

The other thing is not to neglect your gearbox oil/rear hub oil, again there is not much in there and it takes a real beating, the rear hub usualy takes about half a litre and i personaly would change it every 5k ish or once a year to be on the safe side, there is nothing more stomach churning than to see someone on a scoot with a back wheel wobbling because the gearbox/hub bearings have worn out, you just know sooner or later the gears are gonna chew themselvees to pieces, locking the back wheel and spitting the rider off.
